Last I checked he signed a $64 million contract with a $34 million bonus.Seems like his career is doing just fine.

Do you think more people attend/watch the Senior Bowl or say the Peach Bowl?
Potential future employers Watch / Scout and Coach the senior bowls. Senior bowls are pre draft job interview with NFL coaches.

Playing in the Dukes Mayo bowl is fan service and a free swag bag.

Scouts do attend regular bowl games, but what are the chances that the head coaches of just about every NFL team will be in attendance at the game and the practices? They do attend Sr. Bowl practice.

I would still argue very little happens at those practices and that game to supercede their film they have built up over 3-4 years.

Obviously not, but a player gets a hell of lot more attention from NFL teams at the Senior bowl than they would at the Duke's Mayo Bowl. Why risk injuring yourself in a meaningless game when you have an opportunity to make it to the NFL?

Dukes Mayo Bowl? I'm pretty sure there are players opting out of all of the New Years 6 bowl games.

Out of curiosity. What Bowl games are meaningless, since that is what many on here are calling them.

I wonder what would have happened if McGahee had opted out of the National Championship game then had the same injury happen to him at the Senior Bowl?

So you think players are only opting out of the Dukes Mayo Bowl?

Obviously no. I never implied that.

He made millions less on his rookie contract with the wage scale the way it it. That would be a big deal to pretty much anyone. His second contract is a separate thing.

Its odd because they decided to go to meaningless schools (not Alabama) so its clear they have zero self respect anyways.

No. In fact I don't even know who's playing in the Dukes Mayo bowl, thats just the shittiest named bowl I could think of at the time.

Honestly, pretty much all of them. Yes, coaches love the extra practice and it does help younger players that will be expected to step up the next year get extra reps. And yes, the schools and conferences get money for the appearance, but for a player that is expected to be drafted in the spring, unless you are in the CFP, the games themselves really mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.

Neither do I. In fact, I thought you were making the Bowl up and on a lark went to Bing and typed it in to find out it really was a bowl. (I hate these new sponsored bowl titles)

Players go to the senior bowl for the week of practice in front of NFL scouts from literally every NFL team. The game itself is inconsequential and since most of the players will only play about a quarter, the risk for injury is much lower.

Senior bowl has a way higher ROI than the key lime LaCroix bowl. Always impressed by the amount of posters on this board that are just clueless.

Except for the experience and prestige then the CFP is meaningless when compared to players going to the NFL draft in the spring.

And, "in the grand scheme of things" isn't the CFP meaningless? I mean, their argument is that they don't want to get injured to hurt their NFL opportunity. Why make the exception if that is the driving force? There will probably be a higher concentration of high draft choices in the CFP than any other game. With all of that high level NFL talent the odds of getting an injury is probably greater and they could be left with nothing but a "I played in the CFP" memory while losing a multi million dollar opportunity.

All thta siad...I am an old guy and come from an era in which you wouldn't miss a game for anything.

In my playing days I saw players play with broken hands, split chins that got sewn up along the sideline, and I played several plays with a broken collarbone.

You just didn't come out of a game until you just couldn't go anymore. (That said, I was also not NFL caliber, so there's that. But I played with and against many NFL players during my playing career)

You’re an ungrateful moron for the sacrifices they make. Weight room, team meetings, practice, required review of the cut-ups from practice nearly every night and games, all with the risk of serious injury which can affect then for a lifetime. The colleges have no obligation for paying future medical expenses related to those injuries.

You have no idea what these men sacrifice for your program.

But this was in reponse to a "career altered" question. He wouldn't have got the huge 2nd contract if his career was "altered" So it really isn't a separate issue.

Bigger point being is that career lenders
Are few and far between especially in non playoff bowls.

Those who opt out are looking to make dollars playing football. The senior bowl can be a step in that process. Bowl games, not so much.
