His Dad might the only big school scholarship offer he receives.

His grandfather, John Reaves of UF, still holds the NCAA record for most interceptions in a game...9...NINE in one game.

Smart kid, look what it did to Shaduer Sanders. He can't play for anyone but his dad because he never has had to actually win his starting position.

Honestly - respect to the kid.

He could take the path of least resistance but I will always applaud someone taking their own path even if it is more difficult.

Totally agree. Says something about his character and drive to think about going to a place where it's more difficult to win like LSU. Taking the easy route didn't work out too well for Arch.

Expectations. Look at Arch right now and Shaduer.

He should hope to be on their level; both will be great QB's.

I had my Dad as a coach for one season.
I retired after that season.

No it's not, I also wouldn't want to play for my dad if he was like Brian Kelly either. BK is a fricking shithead and mediocre coach, if my dad was like that I wouldn't want to play for him.

He's 15 or 16. I'm sure he'll change his mind a few times.

10000%

This is not new or strange.

Kids respond differently to their parents. I would not want to play for my dad either.

Go somewhere else and build your own credibility.

If you play for your dad the narrative is you didn't earn the spot. And on the other side, if you start your kid, then you're just showing favoritism.

I would think this is more of the norm than not.

Respect for the kid. You go play for your dad, he’s gonna hold you to a higher standard than the rest of the players. You get the starting job, and it’s close competition between you and the backup, there’s always gonna be talk that you only got it because you’re the coach’s son. Or, flip side, the coach doesn’t give you the job to simply to avoid those type insinuations. Lose, lose situation IMO. Go somewhere else, make your own mark, and leave no doubt.

You can say a lot of things about Kiffin, but his players love playing for him.

That said, no child wants to play for their dad. It is a lose-lose. Parent-Kid dynamics are much different than Coach/Teacher-Kid dynamics.

As a college coach I wouldn't want my son to play for me. Unless he's like a legitimate superstar people will always assume he's only starting because he's your kid and that's not fair to either party.

You’re absolutely correct. How do you convince a kid to come play when the coach’s kid is playing the same position.

As the son, why would you play for your Dad? Unless he’s a walk-on, no thanks.
