Who is Kevin Steele then? He's shown that he can field really good defenses when the talent is there, and not so good defenses when it's not.

Pete Golding proved last season that he can't field a really good defense even when the talent is there.

What is your definition of really good? Bama had a Top 10 defense last year, second only to UGA in the SEC.

For all of the 3rd and Steele crowd, did you even watch Alabama with Golding? There was going to be a neutral zone, offsides, pass interference or a complete pass every time it seemed.

I’m going to have to agree with the AL posters here, I think Steele is better than Golding. It may not be glamorous but there’s no doubt Auburns defense got better when Steele came and worst when he left. He wasn’t HC material sure, but he’s a solid hire.

Just now seeing Bama hired Steele.

Better? I don’t know. Seems like they defenses were better when he was at Bama before but that was a whole different thing.

Underwhelming for sure.

Only Bamers can spin a 4 time loser DC as an upgrade. They’re in denial of the talent level there.

It's close to a toss up to me. Steele is solid but his age and recruiting will be negatives vs Golding.

I don't think you really know who Pete Golding is. He underachieved so much with the talent he had that it makes no sense. The linebackers looked completely lost from game to game and missed tackles were pretty much common under Golding's tenure. I've seen what Steele did for Auburn and LSU and that is better than anything Golding could have achieved while he was here.
