I also laugh when I think about Kentucky needing an Alabama basketball recruit except it stings more knowing just a couple of stud signees can make such a huge difference in basketball. Do you guys REALLY need John Petty? Let us have Petty in basketball and we'll give you this latest football recruit. Deal?

Deal.

But not the same. Petty commit already to BAMA? Plus, like most BAMA football fans, he's a UK basketball fan...lol

quote:

Here’s a big one: “That was my favorite school ever since I was like nine,” Petty said Friday night after UK’s staff and coaches from around the country watched him play a game at Nike’s Elite Youth Basketball League event in Indianapolis. “I’ve been a Kentucky fan for a while. I used to love Anthony Davis, John Wall, and me and Eric Bledsoe are real close.”

Oh Hinshaw, he warms my heart.

Cal will make it right when we bring John Petty to God's country

Kentucky, the home of back-to-back-to-back-to-back... recruiting national championships. If only they could win the tournament more than once a decade.

Maybe you should read the whole thread to see "y'all" is pretty much no one in this thread.

I think this thread may contain every Kentucky fan on the rant. And you're one of the only ones that shows up in non basketball threads. That, and y'all have every right to bitch and be pissed. You're fans, and he's a big recruit. But a coach needs to know when to keep his mouth shut in a public forum, and act maturely.

OK so people change their minds. It happens to every school. Quit acting all butthurt. Let the kid go where he wants

Naw. He'll make 6 QBs on the roster. He probably meant that he probably wouldn't play much at Alabama, whereas, he'd probably start at Kentucky.

This is what flummoxes me, and not just with this situation. Why would a 4* athlete want to sit on the bench behind 5* studs?

Does he really think he's better than them and wants to prove it? That seems to be more risky than going to a school like UK where he'd be the sure starter and his talents would be on display a lot more.

If he really thinks he's better than Bama's other choices for QB, it makes sense to me that he'd want to be the big fish in the smaller pond rather than be in a lake with fish that are bigger than him.

Any gumps got a take on this thought?

This sounds obnoxious and eye roll inducing : but our message to kids is that we will win without you, there are 5-stars at every position on the roster and you will have to earn it...........(see the Julio Jones article on The Ringer a few days ago).

Some kids don't want that (and that's fine). Some take it as a challenge and want to go to a place that they perceive at the top of the mountain and prove they are the best.

I mean, I doubt he looks around and says "aw I'm just a 4-star I can't beat out these 5-stars".

He can go where he wants. But he's likely going to get called out when he's reiterating to UK coaches that he's not going anywhere while courting Bama behind their backs.

No butthurt about it. Just calling it like it is. I'd also suspect that Derrick Ansley being on your staff now after he recruited Jones plays into it too. But a kid shouldn't be above reproach when he handles it like he did. I don't care if it happens all of the time or not.

And Hinshaw isn't any less mature then Kiffin, so I wouldn't be casting stones about coaches not making an arse of themselves at times.

Bama has one five star QB on the roster. Jones will likely have one competitor to start and that is Tagovailoa a four star. Any player on the Bama roster has a shot at starting at any time. Saban starts many Freshmen. Perhaps he likes Bama better. Likes the coaches better. Likes the atmosphere better. Likes the academics better. Loads of reason for the school a kid chooses

Im sorry this 17 year old kid you never met hurt your feelings with his choice of where to go to college. Perhaps you can have a good cry about it then take a nice long bubble bath. You'll feel better

I'm sorry that you're not adult enough to discern the difference between constructive criticism on a message board about the issue of what defines commitment among recruits and being a titty baby. No one called the kid names (well outside the WKU poser on the recruiting board) or said he wasn't a good player. It's a big loss for UK's class but most UK fans figured it was coming as he's not an instate kid like Drake Jackson or Matt Elam so there's really nothing tethering him to UK. And it's Alabama, most respect that as we see it on the basketball end.

You're the only one getting your panties in a bundle about someone calling it like it is. Either grow up or move along.

Never said he did. But that doesn't make him above reproach when he handles it like he did. That isn't him owing anyone anything.

Florida's badass new kicker said he was 200% committed days before flipping. That's how kids play the game. It's been like that since online recruiting sites began. It's easier top lie than desk with the backlash from the yocals.
