And there is no way that both LSU and MSU end up 9-3 with LSU ranked higher.

If there is "no way" then how on Earth did Florida State jump a team that beat them 63-20?

Because Florida State didn't lose to Troy, and Louisville lost to Kentucky by 100. That's not happening this year.

I think State plays them close, FWIW.

They didn't. The season progressed. It was an early season loss and FSU righted the ship while Louisville lost late to two really bad teams in Houston and Kentucky.

Louisville was No. 3 when they played unranked Houston and got be at 36-10. That dropped them to No. 11. Then they got beat by Kentucky and dropped to No. 15. All this happened at the same time Florida State beat a top 15 Florida 31-13.

Tonight MSU will be No. 13-15 and LSU will be No. 23-25. Next week, the gap will be closer but LSU will still be behind. If both teams end up 9-3, LSU will not jump MSU. Now, if MSU drops one to Arky or Ole Miss, LSU will end the season ranked higher. LSU just doesnt have the opportunity against Arkansas, Tennessee and A&M to make that statement.

The scenario, as laid out by the OP, creates a situation where I don't think another SEC team gets into a New Year's six bowl game.

With two sec teams in the college football playoffs and the Sugar Bowl hosting a cfp game, the remaining 10 slots (two for the cfp and 8 for the other New Year's six) are likely filled by other power 5 conferences, Notre Dame, and potentially UCF.

The Big 12 will likely have one team in both the cfp and a New Year's 6. Notre Dame will be either in the cfp or a New Year's 6. The Big Ten may potentially have three teams competing for a new year six slot. And, the ACC will likely have one team in the cfp and potentially another in a new year six slot. Then, there is UCF. Plus, one maybe two teams from the Pac-12.

I think there would be little room for a third SEC team, especially one that has three losses

LSU shouldn't drop much in the polls, and MSU probably won't move up. It's not a far fetched idea that Auburn loses to Georgia and Alabama and with each upset to other teams the possibility SEC getting 2 in grows. LSU goes 3-0 to finish season MSU goes 2-1 to finish season Assuming Auburn loses to both Alabama and Georgia. Who would get the NY6 bowl invite?

I'd be a little surprised if Bama doesn't drop.

They’d have momentum for next year. Auburn might be screaming to fire its coach. Miss St won’t travel well enough to get the pick.

This is the stupidest fricking thing I’ve read today. And I lurk on a few OM sites so that’s an accomplishment State has traveled to every bowl game we have played in well. Even the fricking Belk Bowl. The one exception was the repeat Gator Bowl. State alumn and their average fans have just as much disposable income as your average Auburn person does. Possibly even more. Give me a fricking break with this shite.

Even with state beating LSU early on this season, if they're both 9-3 at the end of the year, LSU would get the invite because of our fanbase alone being so much larger and travels so much better than states.

It pains me to agree. Miss State fans travel well for a bowl game but money talks and I agree, Lsu would get the nod. Seen it enough in my years.

I mean I don't really agree with it, if it came down to who was more deserving, state should go bc they whipped us this year. But we all know that's not how it works, it's all about money.

Probably but there are more Auburn fans than state fans.

It pains me to see so much ignorance. LSU is not getting a NY 6 bowl over anyone, including MSU. Try doing just a little bit of research on the selection process. The committee can pick a team from multiple conferences for a certain game if there is no tie in, but they can’t skip over a team in the SEC for a lower ranked SEC team. LSU has zero chance of jumping MSU unless state loses 2 games at this point.

Also, anyone that thinks LSU would travel any better to a bowl destination this year if State goes 9-3 does not know what they are talking about.

I said it after the Ole Miss win and everybody gave me shite for it but LSU will be 3rd best in the conference

Msu will lose to bama.
Auburn would have to beat both UGA and Bama back to back

By default as long as we beat UT, Arky and aTm not very far fetched we will be 3rd.

Sorry MSU your schedule fricked you this year

At the end of the day, if you do not make the final 4, it is just an exhibition game for fun.
