re: Selling off Public Lands - Histrionics Part 47(B)(III)(q)(iv)
Posted by dwr353 on 3/8/25 at 2:33 pm
Roosevelt was a traitor? Public land should be sold off? Hell NO! I am as conservative as they come, but this is wrong on so many levels. The proceeds from the sale will be pissed away and in the aftermath, the public will be the loser. The ability to be free to utilize public lands is what sets the USA apart from other countries.
re: So glad the silliness of a made up holiday called Mardi Gras is over

I always laugh at people who live south of I10 trash us living north of I10. I will have to explain to everyone in St Landry, Acadia, and Evangeline Parishes that they don’t celebrate Mardi Gras in the traditional way that goes back to France. We have a mixture of runs and parades. You can participate in one, both, or neither. I agree with the rest of your post.

Great! Support our people. I refuse to eat imported trash. Most chain restaurants sell that trash. If a local restaurant sells it, ask owner or manager why? Then, get up and walkout. Then blast them on reviews. Time we support each other.

Boomer here. I think it is great. Time for a new generation of leaders. Old-timers like me should be available for advice if asked. Give them a chance to step up. Will they make any mistakes? Sure, but they will learn if we raised them right. We certainly made mistakes in our time also. World did not end as a result.

You should consider a cast and blast in Venice. Some great lodges down there. World's best fishing, closer, no nonresident license required. Also better food. Another option is SW La lodges. Only draw back is very few Mallards. But better eating birds such as Specks in SW La.

As previously, go to Rouses. Anything from east of the Atchafalaya River, pass on it. Look for Billy’s, Best Stop, Kartchner’s, Savoie’s, etc. Basically, Krotz Springs to Jennings down south to Lafayette area.

Just wanted to add that all denominations and civic/social organizations are made up of mortal humans. Some members are righteous, some are not. I have no plans to abandon the Church or the Fraternity. I will let God judge me. Not some random poster on a message board. You do you.

Forty year MM here. 71 years a baptized Catholic. Past Master of 2 different lodges. Never heard anything anti-Catholic in all those years. Also nothing pro-Satanic. We have Catholic, Protestant, and Jewish members in our lodge. I can tell you this: I have never had explain how or why a Masonic Lodge or Mason protected, hid, or covered up sexual abuse of children. I can not say the same for leaders of my Church.

Easy to mix dates up. I think our current zones make little sense. The zones should be north and south with I 10 and I 12 being the zone boundaries for simplicity.
re: Need recommendations for a 7mm08

Plenty of good recommendations on here. My daughter has the Ruger in 7mm08. very accurate. Shot 2 deer with it. I liked it so much I have a .308 arriving next week. It is the green stock model with 18 inch barrel. Ordered from Tim Star Shooting Range in Oklahoma. Great price. I like a rifle with a detachable box magazine and an adjustable trigger.

re: Did anyone else tag out this season?

Happy for all who had luck this year. Just being in the woods is a gift in itself. The sad thing is you don’t really appreciate that alone until life throws you a curve ball. Found out I had cancer 4 years ago and as a result I am limited physically. Have to pick days when I am up to it. Thankfully I have a couple of long time friends who make those days possible. Went in November when weather was nice. Let 13 deer walk that hunt. Got to go several times more and did not kill. Saw some at extreme end of shooting time but did not shoot as I don’t take sketchy shots. Season is over for me this year. My daughter shot a nice Buck on my place so I ended up with enough meat. My advice if you care, is go as often as you can. Relish those days because you just never know when things can change. Already looking forward to next season!

My old friend and mentor told me years ago, "You will be surprised to find out how little money it takes to live well when you don't owe a dime to anybody". I paid everything off years ago. Since then I have seen the wisdom of this. Wife and I live well on Social Security, two state pensions, and a company buy out. Excess funds every month are significant. Have not touched retirement accounts since age 62 (9 years ago). Company pay outs end in 2026 the year I hit RMD age. Opened a non qualified account when I retired. Excess money transferred in monthly. Hope all works out for you!

Shut deer pens down statewide. If you want to shoot a deer like that, go to Texas.

Just watched a new video they dropped. Catching Sheepshead and crabs. Love their channel. I don’t know about the tomatoes. Would try, just don’t tell my MaMa in heaven. She would say, “fait pas ca” for sure.

re: HR 82 - Social Security Fairness Act
Posted by dwr353 on 12/21/24 at 8:37 am
I was classified as an independent contractor I paid both the employees and owners portion. Not 7&1/2%, just under 15%. $300000 is correct. I have a relative that is a retired schoolteacher. Her husband worked for an oil company. He was drawing $2900 a month or so of SS. He died shortly after retiring. Her survivor’s benefit dropped to $851 a month. How is that fair? Bill passed. Happy it did.

Incorrect. I paid into SS for 25 years and my cost was over $300,000. Do you think I am getting something I did not earn?
