I’d argue the opposite.
Missing on your evals can wreck your season far more than previously because of zero depth due to the portal.
Kiffin clearly fits it because his talent evals are spot on and he isn’t having to sell it to idiot 18 year olds he’s selling it to 20 year olds making somewhat more mature decisions.

You've missed the point. The point is that it has become possible at tier 2 or tier 3 programs. Or even tier basement programs like Indiana or Arkansas before you queers try to clap back.
Meanwhile maybe there's a little more money at Bama or Texas. But there's infinitely more pressure. And money eventually has diminishing returns. So why have all that pressure for very little added advantage? Why be just another guy who won it and be forever compared to Saban when you can be a living god by bringing one home to a program who never expected to win?
