Joe Danneman @FOX19Joe I’m told Damar Hamlin has a pulse, but is not breathing on his own. He is being transported to UC. Needed AED and CPR on the field.

Makes no sense. You don't do CPR on someone WITH a pulse.

Thats what i'm thinking. Massive heart attack or Massive brain Injury. Prayers for the family of that player. The NFl has done all they can do for Players safety over the last few years then this happens.

Just started watching, do they not have paddles on the field. Reminds me of last years euro's. He lived though, but you could them shocking his heart from the live feed, hes feet would kick.

Not spinal cord. Looks like a violent blow to his cheat caused a cardiac issue.

Read on More Sports Board that the ambulance waited for his mom to come down to ride the hospital with him which means he is in stable enough condition that he didn't need to be rushed to the hospital.

That ambulance has a defibrillator guaranteed.

There has to be rhythm to give a shock. If he was pulseless, you don't deliver electric shock. The treatment is epinephrine every 3 minutes IV, with intermittent CPR.

This was a cardiac issue. A spinal cord injury would have rendered him immobile. He wouldn't have stood up.

This is what I'm thinking. Reminds me of Wally Pontiff or Pistol Pete.

Maybe he has some issue that noone else has caught?

University of Cincinnati has a trauma center. There are several hospitals relatively close to the stadium. I think the trauma center is a West Chester, way up north of the river.
Praying for this young man

I think they got the heart started but now he’s not breathing on his own.

You are correct that you don’t do CPR on a patient with a heartbeat.

Not a head or neck injury. Probably heart failure or stroke. That's what it looks like

He took a hard shoulder to the chest.

It looked more like he took it on the chin, but obviously he wasn't immediately knocked out. He secured the tackle with his arms. Then he got up and started to adjust his helmet, then obviously lost consciousness. Never grabbed his chest or acted like he couldn't breath.
Maybe an aneurism?

Not true. There are two components to CPR, breathing and circulation of blood from the heart. If someone has a pulse but isn’t breathing you deliver oxygen without the chest compressions. I.e. you give them mouth to mouth or with a bag. That sounds like what they were doing. It is still considered CPR. That is why when you assess someone you have to check their pulse AND see if they are breathing.

Bro i'm way out of my wheelhouse here, but if there's not pulse why apply a drug, how will it get distributed around his body? Honest question because i don't know.

Makes perfect sense. When the medical staff got to him, he was pulseless. They administered CPR and got ROSC. Then the treatment is maintain rhythm and airway in case of no spontaneous respirations- mechanical ventilation.

My guess this game is done for the night. Nobody especially on the Bills side ready to play football after watching their teammate get shocked on the field.

Safety for the Bills appears to have suffered a heart attack following a tackle on Bengals receiver Tee Higgins.
