2011 was the sacrificial lamb for 2019.

That team probably would’ve been considered one of the best if not the best ever if not for the colossal blunder at the end. They had more impressive overall wins than the 2019 team did IMO.

It’s amazing to watch both GOTC’s - the games couldn’t have been any more different yet they still felt exactly the same at the time.

Still crazy to me that we won in Tuscaloosa and made it to the Natty with Jordan Jefferson/Jarret Lee. That would never happen in todays college football. Also, That defense was THAT good. That defense spent A LOT of time on the field.

It was VERY physical. People think those offenses weren't good but they moved the ball on everyone else.

They were going to shove it down people' throats, and they could do that to anyone except each other. The difference in the two was Alabama was a little better at the skill positions .

For all the talk about Okie Lite deserving to be in the BCSNCG, anyone with a functioning set of eyes could see that the only team that could compete with Bama was LSU and vice versa.

They weren't. 2011 was a pretty bad year for college football.

The bigger difference was the head coaches. Les stayed with the same conservative offensive game plan as the first meeting, while Saban opened up the play calling. Saban realized after that first game that conservative playcalling was akin to running against a brick wall with those 2 defenses.

I don't think it tops this years impressive wins. Especially the last half of the season with the 3 playoff wins.

This is something of a misnomer. Alabama didn't really do anything differently but throw a little more on first down, and those were safe throws to the H-Back and tight ends. The difference in the game were the reduction in negative plays once we got deep into LSU territory. In that first game, we shot ourselves in the foot with penalties and trick plays that LSU sniffed out and stuffed for a loss. Instead of trying east-west shite once we got down to the 30-yard line, we hit LSU's middle with north-south plays.

The reason why our field goal kicker did such a better job in that second game was because he had a closer upright to hit, as opposed to the first game where we shot ourselves in the foot on multiple drives once we got down to that end of the field.

Yes the defense was that good, but they really didn't spend a lot of the time on the field because of how good they were and the offense running the ball as much as it did and eating clock. The time of possession averages were pretty even in 2011, with an edge to the offense. LSU's offense averaged 31:29 for the season. Now, in the one game they lost, yeah it was unbalanced, with Alabama having possession for over 35 minutes in the game.

That game features a record breaking NFL class for both teams combined. The only game that came close was the tOSU - Miami natty.

Really it was just a huge disparity at QB. LSU had Rueben Randle and Odell Bekcham on the outside that year. They had plenty of offensive weapons but running an archaic offense with two mediocre to bad QBs running said offense, it just wasn't going to work trying to run into Alabama's strength two games in a row with no adjustments whatsoever. Remember, it took Alabama until the 4th quarter in the NC game to get into the endzone. It's pretty ridiculous to think it took both teams 7+ quarters of football for anyone to score a touchdown.

Maybe at RB but Alabama's leading receivers that year were Darius Hanks and Marquis Maze. LSU had Reuben Randle and Odell Beckham Jr.

AJ McCarron was a better QB than both Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee but his WR talent was vastly inferior to LSU's.
