Wisconsin finished in the top 25 the year Bama scheduled that game. We can't predict the future.

That’s irrelevant to the fact that they were bad this year. Should teams schedule the Ivy League schools because “they won a ton of championships in 1880”? No. You can only go by how a team did this year in judging the actually SoS. It doesn’t matter how good they were when the game was scheduled.

Until they use a computer instead of humans to choose teams, the system will be flawed.

I hope it was someone from UF. We played 3 P4 this year. Only UGA played 2, everyone else played 1.

But it isn't irrelevant to a discussion about scheduling. In fact, it's far more relevant than anything in the OP.

OK. Most of the SEC smokes most of the field of 12 in strength of schedule. The point stands that there is no reason to schedule anything other than cupcakes ooc.

Texas had an easy schedule this year. That won’t be the case every year and to my knowledge throwing trash on the field won’t do much for SEC schedule difficulty

scheduling tough OOC schedules if the committee is not gonna honor it.

Can anyone tell me if there is a huge difference in these out of conference schedules?

Schedule 1: Mercer, W. Kentucky, S. Florida, Wiconsin (5-7 P4 team)

Schedule 2: TCU (8-4, P4) BYU (10-2, P4), Houston Christian, Nevada

Congrats, you completely missed the point.

Bet there’s a huge difference between the in conference games. Just making it through the SEC is enough. I think you’re missing the point

it's pretty obvious that they simply assume SMU scheduled a bunch of powder puffs out of conference

This is dumb. No one is looking at their out of conference schedule, we’re looking at the schedule as a whole and can clearly see that they played 2 ranked teams and lost both games. Doesn’t say much for their chances when they face top 10 teams, and possibly the other 2 teams that made it in over Bama that are ranked behind them

SMU's in conference will never measure up to an SEC conference schedule. SMU should be loading up and losing less.

Tell that to 6-6 Vanderbilt and 6-6 Oklahoma who beat Alabama this season, results on the field have to matter

It's all about mitigating risk. I'm sure you'd agree had the officials called the Tech game fairly.

You can really tell the IQ of folks by how they've responded to this scheduling debate.

They played a P4 schedule and had a harder OOC schedule than Bama

Weren't all of Bama's losses in conference? Wouldn't their OOC help their cause?

We’re not talking about this year. Anyone who can’t see the playoff system is bullshite is just being obtuse or dishonest. Three sec teams all who had great wins were passed by teams outside the top 12 with no top 25 wins because they won a shitty conf. Bama has FSU and Wisconsin next year. Who knows if they’ll be good or not. Ohio State the year after which will likely be when Texas and maybe even Georgia rotate onto the schedule. You set yourself up for failure

Maybe Bame didn’t get in because of their weak OOC schedule added to the in conference losses didn’t measure up to the committee’s expectations.

The only real bullshite is the fact that both Boise State and Notre Dame have really high seeds and they actually played garbage schedules.

Blame the AP and committee for that, they create those rankings, they had all those teams with weak schedules in the top 10 entering conference championship weekend
