Right, the '96 Sugar Bowl win over FSU that led to a #1 ranking is a title game, but the '80 Sugar Bowl win over ND that led to a #1 ranking isn't a title game.

Smartest Florida fan.

That wasn't a title game for ND and you agreed to the Bowl Alliance before the BCS. Getting mad me at me won't change the facts.
Have fun at your next klan rally!

According to ncaa.com Georgia Tech (3) has more national titles than Auburn (2), to this day.
LINK

And Auburn didn't even surpass Ga Tech in SEC titles till 2004.

Holy shite this again for...very simple, until AC became affordable(not invented) people moved to Florida in mass ..it is very hot here. Surrounded by water, the humidity gets near 115 in the summer. Living here without AC is very brutal..which is why when it became affordable, Miami won 5 titles, UF 3, FSU 3. We had a very small population until AC was common...then it blew up majorly.

None of these Natties from the media or BCS will be counted in the future. In 20 years these past championships given in name only will be scrubbed and removed from stadiums. No one in 2045 is gonna give any weight to any AP, UPI, Scripps, Wall Street Journal, or BCS national titles. Teams should do what Auburn did and just start claiming any year they want.

All that will matter is did you win a playoff Natty. Football did this to itself while baseball and hoops figured it out long ago.

Probably. When teams redo their stadiums and scoreboards they should just add any year they were good. My team has 4 dates listed in our stadium for National Titles. If you google us those 4 will come up. But we could claim several more because no one knows or cares what the source was before the playoffs. The entire history of the sport is a hoax because no one enforced rules and anyone could claim a Natty.

Future fans will start the sports history from 2025 when players could be paid and a true playoff started.

Everyone who is anyone knows that college football became important when the majority of homebuilders in Florida installed A/C on new constructions.

What's funny is that UF still won 3 title games before UGA won their first. Ouch.

What’s funnier is that UGA has won 4 since FU’s last one. Doh!

Lol basically. If you were in the Top Five at the end of the regular season...you can claim one...or just claim a ton that make zero sense like Auburn.

That’s my entire point - who was naming the top 5? Every major newspaper had their own season ending rankings just like we have multiple recruiting services ranking stars or the AJC top 50 players. It’s all a joke because no other sport operates this way.

What other sport bassets its post season on the opinion of sports writers during the off season? That is exactly what preseason polls do. And then we argue about “top 10 or ranked wins” when half of those teams end up not ranked later.
