Tennessee quarterback Joey Aguilar was denied a preliminary injunction against the NCAA, making him ineligible to play for the Volunteers in the 2026 season, according to court documents obtained by On3’s Chris Low. Chancellor Chris Heagerty, the judge in this lawsuit, ruled from the Knox County Chancery Court on Friday.
quote:
Aguilar is arguing that his years playing junior college should not count toward his NCAA eligibility clock. The 24-year-old quarterback has spent seven years in college football, but only three seasons at NCAA member schools. The NCAA allows players to compete for four seasons within five years. And it counts junior college seasons toward that total and time period, even though junior colleges are not part of the NCAA.

College sports is healing.

I wouldn’t be upset with this if I was a Vol fan. They’ve got good backups and Joey was straight arse against good teams.

Couldn't even win with a hometown judge. Tennessee has fallen way off.

Didn’t Tennessee lose to every team they played that ended up with a .500 record or better last year?
They almost let state beat them.

Who is the likely starter?

Softmore George Macintyre or true freshman 5* Brandon Frazier

Nice to see a judge with integrity, something the State of Mississippi knows nothing about.

I think most of them realize that, while having him back might be a short term plus, having him get denied would be good for the game.
And like the man said, they've got two good ones right now.

Good, JUCO absolutely should count towards eligibility. And medical redshirts should only be given out for the rare, legitimate injuries that cost a kid a season.

Good. It's time to tighten and enforce the rules. I'm a Bama fan, but it was not good for college basketball for Bediako to be allowed to play, and I am glad THAT precedent wasn't set. But it's sad that it has to be judges making the decisions because the NCAA is so powerless.

It actually isn’t good or bad. Local judges will still continue to do as they did in the Chambliss case or the Bediako TRO.
Had he had the same judge as Pavia he would be eligible.

Then the ncaa shouldn’t have granted a blanket waiver to JUCOs last year after Pavia won.

Maybe he should’ve gotten Trinidad’s preacher to give the invocation before the hearing.
