I see it oppositely. Guys will commit to the big school, and not get playing time right away. Then transfer to get it. Could be very negative for big schools actually.
Right. That's literally what happened here. 5* buried on the depth chart leaves to go to a lesser team where he has a better chance to play

No one was even talking about beating Clemson

At first, I thought you linked something that corroborated this wives' tale.

Enjoy the recruiting victory USC... Honestly, you would have probably been better off having the kid sit out a year to get in football shape.
Whole situation seems very shady on the Gamecocks part with how it went down, but I don't have any inside info. I guess the game now is to keep recruiting kids even after they sign and enroll. Worked for Bama and USC.

Kind of like you do here?

If Dabo were worried about this kid, he could have easily forced him to sit by denying the transfer to USCe. After watching him for one semester, Dabo was willing to let him go anywhere.
Belk's recruitment was sketchy from the beginning. SC was his first offer and he was an early gamecock lean for a long time. Took multiple unofficial visits to Columbia and none to Clemson. Takes one unofficial to Clemson and commits to them. He signed with the tigers during the early signing period in Dec of last year. Enrolled and went through spring ball. But there were rumblings that he was never really happy at Clemson. And we won't even talk about the XT recruitment that followed the exactly the same trajectory. But if you don't think either of those recruitments were dirty, I have a car wash to sell you where you can was the dirt off your new F150...
Let's ponder this question. How many other student athlete transfers do we know of where the student athlete retained a lawyer to help with the process? I can think of exactly zero. Why do you think that is?

By every account, Belk gained a tremendous amount of weight and initially failed the USCe physical.
If this is what you're counting on to finally beat Clemson, you're going to be disappointed. Again.
He's been practicing with the team for weeks. The weight issue and physical conditioning thing has been way over blown. Since he wasn't officially enrolled at SC, he could participate in summer camps or conditioning. The reports out of practice is he's been very disruptive when he's been in. I'm sure he'll be in playing shape by the time November rolls around.
Face it tigers, you got punked on this one. A chink in Dabo's armor so to speak. Hopefully the first of many...

Either that or they saw some sheep. That excites the taters also.

Well, the sec has a new fattest player in the conference.

How so?
Belk changed his mind and Dabo let him go; what was a lawyer going to do about it if Clemson said no?

Yeah its crazy that a player would sign with Clemson over USC... I mean Clemson obviously is terrible at getting DL in the league and Venables is a terrible DC... they must be paying them loads of cash.
I am sure the big recruiting pitch for Belk was that after this year, he would be in prime position to start on a top 10 defense with some playing time this year. After this year with Wilkins, Dexter Lawrence and Huggins going to the NFL we are going to be thin at DT... his leaving didn't do us any favors.
What are the odds that a kid just ups and gets a lawyer to leave his school? What are the odds that the school that finished second for his recruiting and was still reaching out to his family, just might happen to know a lawyer that could really help him out?
And if you believe that our recruiting of him was dirty, which I don't think it was, then how dirty would you guys have to be to pull someone out of our program who enrolled in the spring?

Except your insiders on 247 were saying the Clemson coaches were pleased with what they saw out of Belk last semester.
Even then, it would reflect negatively on Clemson if the coaches were willing to give up on a 5 star true freshman after only 2 months, but that’s not what happened here.

Everyone cheats. If you don't think your school cheats, you're just naive.

so what happened here exactly.
Really don't follow recruiting too much anymore.
Just watch the games.

I'd say ask Belk but your jackass coach made him sign a nondisclosure so you won't get an answer.
