With several family members, including myself, having been diagnosed with varying forms of cancer, one common thread we all heard over & over again was that being in good shape to begin with & being competitive gave all of us a running start in beating our disease. From all accounts that would seem to describe him to a T. Stay positive !

Statement from Nick Saban on John Metchie:

John, you’ve been added to my prayer list.
Praying for a full recovery.
I’ll even throw a Roll Tide your way!

The cynic in me says it’s because there’s not near as much money to be made in the cancer curing business as there is in the cancer treating business.
I believe this. My dad died of pancreatic cancer in 2017 at 81 years old. I’m in the health and life insurance business and have to have a basic working knowledge of diseases and treatments. I knew when he was diagnosed it was a death sentence, but the oncologist kept suggesting more chemo and radiation. Twelve intravenous chemo and then 10 radiation treatments on his brain after it spread through his body. If not for my mom wanting to keep hope alive I’d have told that doctor “No more. That’s enough.”
There’s no telling how many 10s of thousands of dollars that clinic and doc made. Dad lived 7 months from diagnosis, the last three being miserable. That doc knew my dad was dying no matter what he did.

Exact same thing happened to my father summer of 2017. My Dad was 71. They said he had a year to live. All that chemo bought him 1 extra month.

I've had APL (3 years in remission) and John Metchie is going to come through this just fine and be 100%. The only issue is it takes a long time to go through treatment with Vitamin A and Arsenic. 9 months of treatment but not the extremes you have with chemo. As long as he makes it through the first 2 weeks of inpatient care (28 days) it should be a breeze for him! Best of luck to him and his family.

Prayers for John and his medical team.
I was so sad when I read about this yesterday. From everything I have heard, it is very curable and he certainly is in the right place to get the best of treatment.

Fight on and fight hard! So many advances in treatment these days, hopefully a long and productive life ahead.

Whoever is downvoting the well-wishes given in this thread needs to take a good look in the mirror and think about becoming a better person.

I was thinking the same thing. And then I thought about it, if a person will downvote a post of person sending well wishes to a young man with cancer, they are already gone and don't think they really change.

That’s awful.
I wish him a full recover and a happy life after, hopefully with some years in the NFL of course. He is a great talent.

I've dealt with it for 7 years or more. Mine is chronic, his is acute which develops faster but is curable, mine isn't.
The meds they have for this work well. I'm on year one of a three year regiment.
