So... Nix is somehow NOT the better option only because of his "daddy?"

Yea, I laughed at that one too

Well.....the last time Auburn started a true freshman as quarterback Harry Truman was President....(1945 - 1953).

And then came Bo Nix, son of one of the greatest quarterback ever in Auburn history. Patrick Nix played in 32 games, passing for 4,957 yards and 31 touchdowns. He is seventh all-time in school history for passing yards and eighth in passing touchdowns. His senior season was his best with career highs in passing yards (2,574 yards) and passing touchdowns (15).

So, almost 70 years have past since Auburn started a true freshman at quarterback.

So, it goes without saying that just because his dad was one of the greatest in the past at Auburn there is no way he could have, even a subliminal advantage.

Give me a break!

He does have an advantage because of his dad.. it's simply that he is a quarterback raised by a quarterback. It shows in the way he plays at times. The advantage does NOT come due to Auburn being beholden to the Nix name or anything like that.

Nix was arguably the best QB in his class according to all recruiting sites.

Any Auburn fan who thinks Gus is anything more than an incompetent, paranoid, controlling prick who is and always has been in over his head is either lying or retarded.

I have a legitimate source because he played for Auburn tell me Joey had problems getting past the first read so there is some truth to him getting beat out by a true Freshman.

Gatewood seems like a good teammate and athlete.
He’s played very little QB compared to many college QBs.

Even Gus would have played him IF Gus thought he could get more wins with him than with Bo.

I’m no hater of Gatewood. I’m no lover of Gus.

This situation plays out at every school in SEC most years. The backup QB at all 14 schools was a really good HS player. Some can make the next step. Some are Jeremy Johnson- who I think is a nice young man.

A new environment may bring out the best in Joey. He may thrive as a QB or he may change positions.

Time will tell.

Everyone saying Nix won based on even a tiny amount of advantage due to his daddy is crazy. What advantage is there for a Coach to go through 2 weeks of spring with a 3 man QB competition. Then go through 2-3 weeks of fall camp splitting reps evenly with the 1s? If he knew he was going to start Bo why not spend as much time and as many reps as possible on Bo?

Now, I do not blame JG for leaving. I never will. I don't like the way Gus yanked him back during UF...especially given how much Bo was struggling that game.

After Gatewood came in at A&M, I thought he wood have a package the whole season. Things did not work out.

I seem to remember some situation where Gatewood came in to run a play, but I think Matthew Hill sort of forgot to get in position or something.

Anyway, Gatewood did not get a package.

Terry Wilson is the starting QB regardless. The guy won 10 games as a sophomore.

Interesting... Clearly you have NO idea what your talking about.

I was a student at Auburn for the one year Pat Nix was the starting quarterback - 1994. He played behind Stan White every year other than his Senior year.

Stan White started his Freshman year - 1989. He was even the 1990 Peach Bowl MVP ...as a Freshman. He was a four year starter and actually is considered one of Auburn’s greatest.

Gus even started a UGA cornerback transfer at QB. Maybe you’ve heard of Nick Marshall - he played in the national championship game. I would think that is good evidence Gus will start the individual he believes is the best available quarterback on the team.

I think you should post less.

I got ripped apart for reporting the gentleman’s agreement between Malzahn and Stoops. They are friends and golf together at SEC media days in Destin. The whole thing makes perfect sense. I think it’s commendable for both guys. Two class acts coming together to do what’s best for the kid without taking a competitive advantage against his previous team.

Well, I guess there was no agreement after all.

Not wrong after all. LOL
