Him, Drink and Sumrall are lobbying for the job. DJ has some internal support and will get the first shot at it.

Unless you define success as 8-4, there’s nothing in Jimbo‘s entire coaching history that suggests he would be successful anywhere.

He’s been a head coach for 14 seasons. In his 12 years without Jameis Winston at QB, he had exactly 2 seasons with fewer than three losses. One was the year after Winston and the other was 2020-the Covid year when they only played 10 games.

Three to four losses a year in the Charmin soft ACC and unlimited resources Texas A&M.

Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and the other SEC powers won’t quiver if Auburn hires Jimbo. They’ll celebrate.

Not true. He recruited top 5-7 classes throughout his tenure at A&M and FSU before that.

Jimbo recruited well at A&M.

But is that a reflection of him or their NIL program when they're recruiting at roughly the same level now based on rankings that they did when he was there?

I personally hope he gets the Auburn job so we're in agreement on that point.

Again, even if he tops at 8-4, you just fire after year 3 and find a better option which will be more likely than finding one now.

What has Auburn done in the past 5 years to make you think we haven't already?

The admin spent a huge amount of money to acquire top players and the fans filled the stadium, despite the team’s poor performance.

A competent coach could do well at AU.

He signed top 5 classes at A&M before the NIL era.

I know folks wouldn't be excited about that. But, his Auburn ties are strong, which is very important to historic boosters. And, as already proven, Cohen could do way worse.

Theyre signing top 5-10 classes now. Is Elko a top recruiter nationally too?

Thats a baseline for A&M because they have lots of money to spread around whether NIL or otherwise.

Jimbo got the talent. He just had no idea what to do with it. Constant turmoil within the program. Plus, he demonstrated he's a poor offensive schemer and medicore play caller. In short, he needed top 10 talent to go 8-4.

I was there Saturday night. Considering how low ticket prices were before the game I wasn't expecting a large crowd. I was quite surprised how large the crowd was for that one..

I am heading to Nashville this weekend - get in price is near $200 as of this morning. ( I have a feeling prices will drop for this one as the week goes on)

And pay another big buyout for the sane success you could probably have with a good G5 coach.

Also, I think 8-4 would be optimistic. Auburn is a good job with a good history but they don’t play in the ACC of 15 years ago, they don’t have aTm resources, and they’re in an almost 10-year-old slump. I very seriously doubt he could get to 8–4. He’s just not that good of a coach.

Elko is definitely getting it done in the NIL era. And now that he’s having success on the field he’s going to enter another level. Great for us.

Jimbo v Elko without NIL = Jimbo every time on the trail.

Jimbo v Elko coming off a ten win season = Jimbo every time on the trail.

There is no better closer.

Jimbo was flipping dudes from Bama in December before the NIL era.

Id never met an A&M Jimbo diehard until this morning.

Cheers to you and I hope he gets the offer for Auburn.

Jimbo to AU along with Durkin running the defense would be a good deal for AU.

Pay him 7.5 per year and his buyout would be 7.5 as well.

Setup incentives so he could get big money if he does big things.

Oh, take that F 4-inch binder he has on gamedays and let YellaFella run in thru his woodchipper.

To be clear, I was ready for him to go. He failed at A&M. It was time.

But that’s not going to prevent me from recognizing how elite he was as a recruiter.

If he can adapt, and I’m not saying he can, the dude can be successful. Getting the dudes is the biggest part of winning in CFB. Again, it’s not everything. And as Jimbo proves if you can’t adapt or maintain a culture of discipline, you will crash and burn even with a roster of blue chippers.

All I’m saying is that in this specific environment, Auburn would be wise to give it some real thought.

Jimbo will not be the coach at AU. He wants the job, but he has zero internal support. He gets a bad rap because of how goofy he looks, but his record ar FSU was elite. He recruited well at AM, but got locked into some bad QBs. He will be fine for a Ole Miss or Texas Tech when they open this cycle. It can't cut a pressure cooker SEC job.

He was doing some talking head stuff on an ACC game that was on my multiview this weekend.

Wasn’t about to move the audio to that corner, though. I’m pretty sure I still have PTSD from that motor mouth.

Itd be funny if jimbo went to an sec school and coached for free for a few years since a&m is paying him so much.
