I’m sure that’s a positive at the least.

George what are your thoughts on having zero kids from Alabama? I think it lends to our identity as a team to have so many in state kids.

Don't care at all in basketball. The state doesn't produce enough high level SEC players. You can't build a consistent Top 20 roster and have a large chunk of kids from in-state at Alabama or Auburn.

If the state produced more players (like Arkansas does, or obviously Georgia or even Tennessee) I'd prefer it, but the caliber of player just isn't consistently here. I think we will vigorously pursue in-state kids who can play our style at the level we want when they present themselves, but there just aren't going to be guys like that in-state every year.

I have always wondered what Howland's tenure would have looked like if Malik Newman was as good as hyped.

Interesting that every year TEAMS with inferior talent regularly beat TALENTED INDIVIDUAL PLAYERS in the NCAA tournament.

So yes getting great talent is hugely important but teaching them how to play together and sticking around to play for more than a year at a time is the key. We see many examples of teams just like this each year. State was a case in point. Absolutely loaded with talent but the lack of chemistry was costly this year. And you do not get chemistry in 10-20-30 games.

Transfers and NIL are going to just exacerbate this issue in CBB.

Anyways I think Jans hits the portal pretty hard. Will be interesting to see what he brings in. He is a similar coach to Howland but he is probably a bit hungrier than Howland which hopefully gives him a bit of a boost. MSU fans are just looking for tourney appearances.

Newman was a great high school player but an average college player. He had a 2-3 game stretch in one tournament where he played well at Kansas but beyond that he was a decent average player.

Part of the problem there was he was so hyped coming in as a one and done that he believed it himself and I think became a bit entitled his Freshman year. When the season did not materialize like he wanted it to, he fled to Kansas.

So far he has a nice career in the G league with one appearance in the NBA. Which is cool because not many players can say I played in the NBA.

Have you seen our recruiting? Muss is about to have the best talent in the conference by a lot and will be returning dynamic experienced players. He’ll also be stealing other teams best juniors and seniors year in and year out like he’s already doing.

I don’t think you guys understand how fricked you are.

In this thread, we demonstrate why other fanbases hate us.

Even if you think it's a horrible hire, no need to say so. Teams are excited when they get a new coach, as they should be. No need to try to rain on their parade. Let them have their day. It will either work out, or it won't. What you, I, or MSU fans think of it won't affect it one iota.

Jans is a good coach who did great at New Mexico St, that was a solid hire.

Such a strange world we live in; NMSU and MSU are similar in basketball attendance and will make 3-4 time more. It really is football driving these basketball coaching salaries.

rather than flame away...

Jans had his team playing better than Mizzou, Georgia, Ole Miss, Florida, LSU... and his players were not really SEC talent.

If he can coach as well as has been shown, get better talent... Jans will do very well at State.

If we didn't have Muss, he is exactly the type of talent we should look at. ("Please Lord, let Muss hang at Arkansas for a long, long, long, long time")

Arkansas fans ITT seem scared after Jans almost beat them with New Mexico. They know what’s coming when he gets ahold of SEC talent

Muss better take y’all far this season

I wonder why he bounced around at junior colleges for so long?

Great coach, weird resume

Then again Muss has a weird resume a little bit

I think this is a solid hire for a school like State in basketball but you are a little delusional if you think any of us are scared of him. Muss admitted he put to much focus on defense against NM State but it worked.

We got better talent coming in next year by the way
