eh, i'll give him a break. he's at vandy. you have to do things a little differently to even WIN there, much less sustain winning there.

But it isn't even true. There is no way in hell he out-works Saban unless he doesn't sleep at all this summer. I'd be smh if my coach said that.

you can't OUT WORK Nick Saban... i mean, straight up. no one can do that. most people simply don't care enough... even their paycheck to work -that- hard.

I don't mind him poking at the King of the Mountain, but calling him "Nicky Satan" is kind of...lame.

Nice one. Did he steal that from the 7th grade insult book?

All I could think of when I heard this James Franklin quote is George Costanza.

"Hey, Saban, the jerk store called. They're out of YOU."

James Franklin apologizes for calling Alabama coach 'Nicky Satan'

quote:

Vanderbilt football coach James Franklin said he phoned Alabama’s Nick Saban on Wednesday to apologize for referring to the four-time national championship coach as “Nicky Satan.”

Franklin, who made the reference Monday at a Macon (Ga.) Central High sports banquet, said it was meant strictly as a joke. Video of the speech has since gone viral.

“Obviously, tremendous respect for Coach Saban,” Franklin said. “I just got off the phone with him. Tremendous respect for them. I’ve got tremendous respect for what they’ve done. Everybody is chasing them. The guy has won three or four national championships.

“(I was) really talking about the work ethic that he has a reputation for, and that we’re going to outwork them. I made a joke. And in today’s society with all the media and social media and people with tape recorders and things like that, that doesn’t come off that way. I know people have tremendous pride in Alabama, and their fans are fanatical. So I understand. But it was a joke and I didn’t mean to offend anybody.”

Franklin said that Saban was “good” with the situation.

It's James Franklin we're talking about... the dude's not exactly the epitome of class.

Wouldn't surprise me. Can't stand the guy. I bet he pouted a lot as a child when mommy took the tit away.

He's had a few hiccups along the way. The point is that if this were any other Vandy football coach no one would even know his name. I mean outside of Vandy fans like me. He has been in the news twice for negative comments. This and the coaches wife thing. In two years he has broken so many Vandy records - best coach we've ever had - not even close. As long as he is there we will be competitive every week - given the difficulty of recruiting - that's fine by me.
