Yes I’m sure the Biletnikoff winner and future top 10 pick cares about the free semester of classes he’s allowed to take at a prestigious school like Louisiana State University

He will be the 1st WR drafted next year and Top 10 pick. The Bengals will not pass on him or another team will take him before them. I really wanted to see him play but can't be mad at another man making a decision on what he think is right for him.

Who didn't see this coming? No reason to play this year with an inferior QB throwing him the ball.

He is a top ten pick.

Dude is set for the next few years. More than likely he will fall into the trap most pros do and be piss poor broke within 5 years of leaving the league.

I think it has to do with Smith wanting another championship more than anything.

Given the dimensions of this hurt, probably better
to tread lightly.

The $2 million value in that article is based entirely on the fact that the player would not have gone to college otherwise. It’s saying “but for an athletic scholarship, these players would not have gone to college.” We literally have no idea how many players that actually applies to though. So yea, the scholarship will be worthless for some players, and for others it has some value. Surely there have been a ton of star players that would have went to college no matter what though.

Also, it makes no sense to value a scholarship based on career earnings; instead, the value of a scholarship should be based solely on how much the scholarship costs for the school that provides it (I.e. tuition + room and board, etc). After all, we’re comparing what the player makes for the school and what the school provides for the player. LSU isn’t giving a player $3 million dollars, it’s giving a player the cost of a scholarship. Any exposure that the LSU brand provides is already factored into the cost of attending the school.

Financially it is a smart move for the kid. He was highly unlikely to replicate last season's success without Burrow so there was really nowhere for his draft stock to go but down.

Agreed. Especially in a weird season like this.

He isn’t any more likely to catch covid playing than he is sitting out and living life like a normal college kid.

No it's not. Liberals think everything is free. It's not just the cost to attend school and the room and board, it is also all the perks these athletes get in addition to those things including a weekly stipend of spending money.

If you disagree with the way Forbes has calculated the value of an athletic scholarship, maybe Bleacher Report is more your speed.

Either way, a football scholarship is hardly free, which is the point that I am arguing against.

What's a college football scholarship worth?

Not safe!

These students are forced to opt out because they are terrified to play in a global pandemic! Can’t blame them!

Season needs to be cancelled!

Big 10 and PAC 12 were right!

This is scary!
