If you're so impressed with Odom, how can you not be with Simmons? Odom has him on jump shot, Simmons on everything else. Simmons averages 4 more ppg, 3 more rpg, and 2 more apg than Odom at Rhode Island on far fewer shots.

Odom had far less ability and skill. I know a lot of people like to throw this comparison, but the strength of Simmons' game is nothing like Odom's and vice versa. They can both pass for big guys, but Simmons is far more gifted there.

Simmons could statistically have a better rookie year than any year Odom had in the NBA

The comparison is for those who only see height and ballhandling ability. i'm no expert, but for people who say that he's a poor man's Odom, do not understand the nuances of the game. It is what it is

My only knock on Simmons is that his team sucks. I realize it's not his fault, but it doesn't look good when the " greatest thing since Lebron" isn't even going to the tournament .

WildcatMike, just out of curiosity, what specifically would Cal do to get more out of Simmons? Not saying I disagree, I'm just trying to pry a bit and see if you know anything about basketball or if you think you do because you know what a ball screen is, like most UK fans

Not Mike, but Cal would have him playing better defense.

I don't know why Simmons gets so much grief. He is a good shooter, incredible passer (deceptive passer) plays defense and maybe the only negative is he passes when he should shoot.

Dumb.... Just plain dumb

Simmons is a phenomenal talent... Consistently putting up great numbers and making everyone around him better... Agreed everyone around him isnt so great, but hell, we've never got 3 top 50 players

A one handed ray Charles has a better jumper than Simmons I can't believe 98 Opie are even saying he has even has a below Avg j. His jumper is on welfare lol

I have watched about 15 games and besides a back 5 the basket baby hook shot have never seen him score on not a dunk layup or putpack. .

People did not 4 alive how bad Oakfor defense was til he got to the league and will be the exact opposite for simmons. Comparing him to odom is being generous right now he's a shitty version of Michael kidd Gilchrist

I just want to save this for the next time I have had too much to drink. It could be one of those "this is your brain on alcohol" commercials.

Good passer and driver are pretty simple minded comments. Anything else?

Well L5U doesn't actually run an offense, so Cal would probably start there.

So you're admitting Simmons will be a solid pro, maybe even great, but will never be more than a poor mans Odom. Odom was 'solid,' never quite great, but a very good player. So how is he a poor man's Odom again?

You just made fun of people's basketball knowledge 2 posts ago, and then try to tell us Lamar Odom was only "solid."

Ben Simmons is an exceptional talent. He sees the entire floor at all times and loves to move the ball to his teammates. He has a very high basketball IQ. He can go left or right with ease. Furthermore, he can shoot and score with either hand. This is a very rare gift. He needs to hit the weight room. Obviously he needs to improve his jumper dramatically. If he does improve that shot he will probably win a couple rings. If not, he still will be a perennial all star. I think he reminds me of LeBron James. Tall. Great handles. Great creative passer. He doesn't have the exceptional althleticism that LeBron dominated the NBA with. Lots of people are calling him a poor man 's Lamar Odom. He has a way higher ceiling than Odom. I think his game is more comparable to what I saw out of LeBron in high school. Great passer that saw the entire floor in a way that very few players do.

Hey Mike. This might surprise you. I mean really surprise you. Idk if you're ready it's so surprising.

Wait for it....

Lebron didn't have a good jumpshot either when he got drafted.

So your knock on Simmons is that he chose to go to the wrong school? Fair as frick. Kid would be POY without question had he went to to Duke or UK, but definitely Duke. Duke would be ungodly with Simmons on their team.

Sucks saying that because hopes were that he would be th beginning of something new. Instead if they make th NIT then we will just all be calling for Jones to DIAF.

If LSU football only wins 8-9 games this place will burn. And I'll be dumping gasoline soaked sawdust.

Fairly solid analysis. Simmons is obviously already better than Odom. Simmons isn't on a team with Kobe, Fisher and Gasol. If he were than he'd obviously be much better than Odom, tomorrow.
