Jalen Hurts dad: Jalen will play, if not “he'd be the biggest free agent in CFB history”

quote:

"Coach Saban's job is to do what's best for his team. I have no problem with that," Averion Hurts said. "My job is to do what's best for Jalen—and make no mistake, Jalen is a quarterback, and he wants to play quarterback. He loves Alabama, loves Coach Saban and everything about that place. But he wants to play, and he will play…"

Averion stops mid-sentence because the idea of his son not playing for Alabama isn't one he takes lightly. What if Jalen doesn't win the job, he is asked?

He shakes his head slowly, answers begrudgingly. "Well, he'd be the biggest free agent in college football history."

Can’t argue with any of his thoughts. Respectful of Alabama and Saban, but it’s obvious he could start somewhere else after what he’s done at Bama.

He wouldn't be the biggest FA this year.

Not many teams will want him at QB. He's a sub-par passer.

ETA:

Not many "big teams" will want him at QB. I'm sure the mid-majors will beat down doors for him.

Well take a poll. How many of you would prefer Jalen to transfer or Tua to transfer?

Plenty of D1 running QBs that don’t throw very well. No doubt he will land somewhere as a QB. Probably like a Cincinnati type school if that makes sense.

Whichever one makes Bama a lesser team, I want them to stay and the other go

Respectfully, I would love for AU to have him as I think he would do well in Gus' scheme. That O was nearly unstoppable back in '13 and half of '14 with Marshall calling the shots.

150% rather Tua to transfer. That kid is going to be scary good.

Jalen doesn't scare me in the least. I wish he'd be Bama's QB for a decade.

Hope everything works out for us and for Jalen. Wish for Jalen's sake his dad hadn't said anything, but it's probably been the worst kept secret in college football the last few months. Not sure this really changes a whole lot.

jordan jefferson with good coaching and elite talent. if he leaves bama he will fall apart. he should change positions and stick with saban.

He'd fit right in at LSU.

Who would be a bigger free agent? Is there some transfer out there that I don’t know about?

Your comment is veryy true but people will probably come in and try and say he can't play qb even in a system catered to his skills, which is false. Last season the OC had no clue how to help Jalen out and it exposed his limitations in the passing game instead of helping him and playing to his strengths. Confidence kept getting hit and by the end he could hit anything and had significantly regressed.

He's talking about all-time, not just right now
