but 30 years of complete and total mediocrity (and worse) since then tells me they gave up their blue blood card when Tom retired.
Most objective sports fans understand this. It's truly amazing that Nubs are still even considered elite/blue blood after 30 years of average at best football. A lot of these guys on here live in the past, and can't seem to concentrate on the present.

uga i got no issues with they are boderline anyhow. You cant take away national titles from people. All these teams like Mizery fans trying to act like they could come close to doing what some of these school have done because they had a few 10 win seasons LOL... you dont replace schools that accomplished what they have until you have anywhere close to the titles those schools had.

Yep, and that is why you are listed as tied for 5th in that category. OSU has that many too..

Their fall has been hard, but why exaggerate so much?
They made the Big 12 championship game their final season in 2010, as well as the conference CG their second Big Ten season in 2012. They won 9 games in 2013, 2014 and 2016. Average at best?
1997 was their last NC, but they played for one in 2001. They had some really bad seasons by their standards in the 2000s, but they were clearly still well above average until about a decade ago.

Nah. USC and Nebraska are blue bloods.
My list of blue bloods would include about 12 schools and include fringe programs like Penn State and Tennessee. I look at NCs, wins and AP top 10 finishes.

The problem is that the term "Blue Blood" is literally a euphemism for "old money"...
Ironically, I was reading something about the Vanderbilt family. Apparently Corny Vanderbilt has a lot of descendants and hardly any of them have big money anymore. But they are still a "blue blood" family.
It is tough to completely discount the past when in any discussion of "blue bloods" in CFB.

LSU is more of a blueblood than USC-Cali.

This is the correct answer...although I'd still put USC there to round out the 5 true blue bloods.
It's extremely tough to lose the status, but very hard to obtain. I do think Nebraska has been so terrible for 2+ decades in a row that they turned in their membership card...I'd put them at 6 on the next tier...along with...
Michigan.
Their resume is basically that they've been playing the game longer than most other teams. Start date doesn't equal blue blood status. I'd put them at 7 then Texas at 8. Flip a coin with Georgia or LSU or Tennessee after that...in what I call the Penn St tier...then come the Florida schools in some order.
