Probably... and like I said, due to our past there will always be the elephant in the room that we have to address (slavery/race).
However when I close my eyes and think of "Ole Miss" it's script letters on a helmet or sign. Not an AA female slave. I am aware that certain symbols mean different things depending on experiences or what's taught to young individuals in their formative years.

I don't think Ole Miss is hiding anything about Tony's legacy. I believe most adult fans are well aware of what Tony faced. I also don't believe they're gonna sit their kids down and explain PTSD, anxiety, depression and drug addiction just because they got their picture taken with a stuffed animal.

The guy suffered from PTSD from his time in Iraq (he was on anti-anxiety medication for it). The drug that did him in was an overdose of morphine after he was cut by the Ravens. Just a really sad situation for someone that genuinely seemed like a really great guy.

Keep in mind, I think being the “landsharks” is alright, but y’all could have done better on that mascot. That thing is ugly.

Tony is the one that coined the Landshark name and symbol back in 2008. From what I understand it was a nickname for his platoon in Baghdad.

I'm not sure how we could have done a mascot around Chucky... We have a bust of him in the South Endzone that the team runs out of.
But yeah, the mascot is lame. I think the best question is why do we even have to have one? I really don't see little kids warming up to a weird shark looking thing roaming the sideline.
The best thing the admin could have done, when they got rid of Col Reb was to go with a revolutionary soldier looking guy, called him Rebel, and be done with it years ago. But, it is what it is...landsharkbearrebels.
