Remember that there are a lot of Alabama fans wearing the LSU badge this week due to bets.

Don't forget OU and I wouldn't consider Miami elite and UF is not historically elite. Only since Spurrier have they been a top tier team.

Penn St might be more elite than UF and Miami, historically.

Until they can beat UF a little more often and win the east,

We have currently won it 3 times since Richt has been here (10 years prior to this year) and after Saturday can make it 4 in 11 years. That's an average of once every less than 3 years.

I'd say if you win your division every 3 years you're doing alright.

I just don't think UGA is considered elite with the likes of Bama, OU, UTx, ND, Michigan, etc.

And if you read my first post in the thread I said we probably aren't considered an elite program. I said we're about 12-14 all time.

How is Notre Dame considered elite? If you're arguing that UGA has not done anything recently, I suggest you look at ND. When was their last NC/ Late 80's if I recall.

No...elite is just that elite, it's by definition a very select few. i'll use the analogy of track/field. My senior year in college, I ran at our track nationals....I was good - I was regional class, there some of the best people in the country there, and the guy who won the 10,000 set a fastest time in the world to that point in the year...he ran a 28:14 - and yet, he would end up a 1/2 lap behind the truly elite. UGA is in that Low 28 min 10K range (world class). Which is enough to win a lot, but right now I wouldn't say "elite"

K, and jawja's last was?

ND isn't currently elite, but all-time, yes they are very much so.

imo, uga is like lsu was about 10 yrs ago; a sleeping giant awaiting the right coach. georgia produces a ton of prospects and richt, while doing a damn fine job at first, seems to have gotten too comfortable. it's like he doesn't reallly have a fire in his belly. this is no flame; i've always really liked the dawgs. maybe they are emerging right now; we'll see but i really don't think richt is the man.

They have the 3rd highest overall win % in the SEC behind Alabama and Tennessee...

Had it not been for that decade of the 90s, LSU would have a firm grip on all time 3rd place right now.

For the past 21 years, the bitch slappings they have taken from Florida (also UT beat them handily through most of the 1990s as well) leave people outside of GA thinking they are a 2nd rate SEC team.

yeah that argument works more than one way buddy. We were pretty awful to average in the 90s too.

UGA won a hell of a lot more games from the strech of 90-99 than LSU did.

But the sentiment is still the same; if we didn't have Goff and Donnan running things in the 90s our wins/win %/stats/etc would be much better than they are too.

The football program isn't elite in terms of performance on the field. However, in terms of making money for the university, it almost certainly is. LINK

I was watching the Ga Tech-Va Tech game today and I found myself wondering what it must've felt like walking around the state of Georgia when Georgia Tech actually had a fanbase way back when.
