There never has been, and Bama is proof.

If your program has no national notoriety, great players won’t come.
An Indiana player just won the Heisman, Camp and O’Brien awards. A Texas Tech player won the Bednarik and Nagurski for top defensive player and Lombardi for top college player. A Vanderbilt player won the Unitas for top QB. A different Vanderbilt player won the Mackey award for top TE. The Outland Trophy for top lineman went to a Utah player.

Here's what this thread is really about...
The OP is really pissed that every school can now legally do what Bama has been doing.

They were one of the last 8 teams left playing.

It is telling just how many people have tried to make this about Alabama.

Yeah but they played next to nobody this year. People in the big ten boards and in here were bitching about Oregon’s SOS. The top talent on defense showed itself so far in the playoffs. Even when giving up 34 to JMU, Lanning had a 41-6 lead into the third quarter. Backups were in for most of the third and all of the 4th quarter on defense

Just off the top of my head?
Injuries
Egos
Off the field antics, players and coaches
Bad call at just the wrong moment

Nothing unreasonable in your post, op. It’s just a matter of time if something isn’t changed. Probably not Arkansas but you get what I’m saying.

Their billionaire donor came out the day after they lost and said he's throwing even more money at next years team. Not sure if they have the coach to win it all but it won't be from a lack of talent or going cheap.

He can probably buy a smoking hot wife too but he can’t guarantee she’ll actually love him.
Money can swing the odds and all but it doesn’t guarantee jacksh!t.

NIL stopped Nick Saban and Alabama from buying them.

It is happening now.
Mark Cuban is the billionaire donor for Indiana and there are a few billionaire donors for Texas Tech.
This isn't quite the "Cinderella story" that many are portraying it as.

. . . Buying a Championship
The New York Yankees did it many times as did other teams to a lesser extent.
The NFL went to a salary cap model with the 1994 season, currently up to $279.2 million/team.
Go back far enough I bet you will find the Romans outspent the barbarians.
Buy a championship has withstood the test of time and will continue as long as the rules allow.

Proof? Of course not. Just typical drivel that makes SEC Rant the joke of sports boards.

Right. But the fact is if somebody rolls up on Mendoza’s knee, or Joe Burrow’s or Stetson Bennett, you roll snake eyes, no matter what you spent.
What Indiana hit on besides missing the injury, bug, was locker room chemistry, and character. And they probably have the best coach in the nation.

Yeah. It doesn't guarantee you anything but gives you a chance. Wrong injuries will derail it for anyone

Indiana would still beat them with a bunch of 3 stars out of the portal.
