The only one for Bama I can’t really justify is 1941. The rest are justifiable.

1 then 2 then 3 then 4... etc. Same way you count anything else.

Weirdo.

Note to self.... asking about claimed titles causes a form of lashing out in certain fan bases and fits of what superficially could be considered narcissistic rage - More research is needed before that is conclusive however.

So Alabama is listed there, what 16 times?

I guess so. I mean the dude was a heisman winner and did play with a broken hand so pretty big hinderance. Nobody gives us credit for destroying Florida now so we will remove LSUs credit for winning that game at home.

LSU, for the record, would also have 9 national titles if we claimed all of ours.

Claimed: 4 (1958, 2003, 2007, 2019)

Unclaimed:5 (1908, 1935, 1936, 1962, 2011)

Hell, 1964 changed the way the damn AP started voting on the mess. Knew they couldn't hide the fact Gump didn't earn it. The. Very next year, we run the table again, lost to forkin LSUsual 14-7 in the Cotton and were screwed a second time!

That's correct, if said newspaper in Ohio is an NCAA-designated selector for the year in which they've claimed said team to be the national champion.

Claiming every permissible title would give Alabama 22 national titles, Oklahoma 18 national titles and Texas (indomitable juggernaut that you are) 9 national titles.

This was helpful thanks. I doubt we would claim them that way but maybe we have to if some team was claiming 9 to our 7 when they only have 2 AP titles.

It looks like Alabama has 16, not counting the one they got robbed of in '66 when they were the only undefeated and untied Div-1 team in the country, and were Nat'l Champs the TWO years before ('64,'65)

What kind of sport leaves its fans with so much ambiguity on its champion? Its rhetorical, no need to answer.

To make this simpler, here is my proposal. No championships should be counted until starting the year of desegregation of college football in the south, 1969-ish as I recall.

It really was all just exhibition games before that, with historical hindsight, IMO.

Speaking as an Aggie, I just go look at the outside of the stadium and see what it says.

Could you imagine claiming titles you don't have, and the national joke we would be for doing so?

It was 21-14. Doesn't matter if it was by 7 or 10 points or a de facto home game for LSU. They dominated our offense and won the NC. It is what it is.

You claim 1950, despite getting throttled by Kentucky in the bowl game. Very sad.

Others in the SEC also claim these types of titles.

Correct. But not everyone - just Bama, Tennessee and Georgia.

Neither Oklahoma or Texas claim BS titles.

OU's 1950 title is questionable as they were defeated by Kentucky in the bowl game. Kentucky finished with the same record as OU but OU was awarded the title.
