Is the University of Texas at Austin too liberal to be good at football?

We have seen what has happened to historic programs like USC and UCLA. There is a point where any emphasis on sports(especially a sport like football), is demonized by the extreme left. They believe focusing on football is barbaric and beneath them. This line of thinking is present everywhere but I would argue is way more prevalent at a place like Texas.

Fans running wild holding up sex toys at some kind of rally equals soft football.

Plus having 25 mini Jerry Jones running the show holds Texas down.

Austin has always been full of purple haired weirdos. They have been good before. It's not the city.

Nick Saban is a good friend with moderate liberal Joe Manchin. Assuming that is indicative of his political leanings - considering he did an ad for him - does that mean GMac is right and Saban is underachieving due to soft liberalism?!

Why is USC no longer a National power? Sorry you can’t see the big picture/overall trends.

Because USC made poor hiring decisions with their ADs and coaches.

Well I have thought this may be going on for some time. It depends on if the "liberalness" bleeds into the football program. I'm not sure if that has happened yet. I thought that may have happened to Missouri. But again, maybe not yet. But the farther left these campuses shift, the less they care about football. Texas alums still care about football.

Most colleges are pretty liberal and USC was still super liberal even during their glory years

Would Alabama have allowed Clay Helton to be HC for this many years of mediocrity?

If extreme liberalism had spread to our football program Charlie Strong would still be our coach.

Hence the premise of this post may be correct.

Isn't Athens a deep blue turdbowl just like Austin?

Georgia seems pretty good.

No it isn't stop living in world where muh liberalism is some super evil entity. The quality of the ADs and coaches are what causes a program to tank. You and OP are just trying to connect dots that don't exist

That environment and culture breeds arrogance and smug self-satsifaction.

Both work against the selfless dedictation winning football demand.

I have had thoughts along this same line. These far left, progressive and woke places tend to have a culture shift when it comes to football, especially.

How many years has it been since any of the west coast teams have been relevant? Washington and Oregon have been in the four team playoff. Oregon did make it to the CG in 2014.
