could LSU handle Saban stripping them of their greatest season ever?
It's well established that Miles owns big games and Saban, so the odds of that happening are pretty slim.

Nope... LSU won, hats off to them.
Jan 9th will be the main game between the two best teams, they need to perform there.

I figured that with as far as this thread has gone, we'd have seen a picture of Jim Mora with that crazy look on his face shouting "coin toss...... coin toss" by now

I've probably never been as torn as I am about the question of the Alabama re-match.
Without taking cheap shops at each other and making smart arse comments, try and put yourself in the other team's shoes.
Had LSU lost that game 9 - 6, would we think we were deserving of a re-match? Does the fact that we beat them in Tuscaloosa make that much of a difference? Isn't the system created to put the two best teams in the championship game?
On the other hand, why does someone deserve a second chance after being beat at home? Is Alabama's body of work that much better/any better than the other one loss teams?
Seriously, I can argue both sides of it with a straight face.
There are only a couple of absolutes in this whole situation, as follows:
1. Without question, through this point of the season, LSU is clearly the best team in college football. I'm sorry if that offends Alabama fans, but our body of work really is that much better, and we beat y'all at your place.
2. Without question, the SECWest is by far the best division of any conference in college football.
3. No matter who plays whom in the championship game, someone's going to feel like they were left out.
4. LSU is in the most enviable position right now. That's because we've one them all.
No matter what happens in these next 2 (or 3) games, I'd like to thank everyone involved with our football program for delivering the most impressive season, through 11 games, that I've ever seen (I am 46) an LSU team put together. It may be the most impressive group of 11 wins ever put together of any football team period.
With risk comes reward. If this football team is good enough, or lucky enough, to win their way into the national championship game, and has to face Alabama, and were fortunate enough to beat them again.......wow......how could this season ever be surpassed?

good post
haven't seen much disagreement here. Just disagreement on who the second best team is.
lots of agreement on this point. This is part of bama's argument on being more deserving than OSU. Well that and their horrible loss to a 4 td underdog that has 4 losses.
always
would be damn impressive

I'd love to see LSU play Stanford in the BCS NC game. There would be nationwide interest in that game. LSU/Gumps, not so much......
LSU fans object to teams that didn't win their conference playing for the BCS title but you'd love to see Stanford, a team that didn't win their conference, play LSU for the national title instead of Alabama? How convenient.

Results? You mean like being 10-1?
No. I mean like failing to win your division and therefore play for your conference championship. The RESULT of losing to a team that will.
quote:
Just like the other teams that are being considered?
The other teams being considered, normatively, will be conference champions who will have to put their NC chances on the line by winning one last game against a strong opponent.
quote:
The teams that got that record playing in weaker conferences and especially weaker divisions?
Don't pull that SEC brotherhood shite on us. Lame. If OSU beats OU they are going to play one last game with their NC life on the line. You don't get to bypass that risk and reap the same reward because you weren't good enough to even get the opportunity.
quote:
Don't preach to me about results when you have a crystal ball in your trophy room from a 2 loss season.
LSU went to Atlanta and won the SEC that year. If you don't do that this year, I'll preach that gospel whether your incapable of understanding it or not.

What?
Do you have some sort of "LSU Fans" survey backing up your BS, or are you just gracing us with generalized supposition?
In fact "LSU fans" are probably more likely than most to say teams should qualify based on record regardless of Conference Championship. E.g., if LSU beats Arky then drops the SECCG to UGA, LSU will almost assuredly still geaux to the BCSCG, deservedly so.
Has nothing to do with Conference Championships at all.
However, as it has become more apparent that somehow the Tide's losing to LSU in T-town was giving Bama an inside track to the BCSCG, sportswriters are having some "wait-just-a-minute-this-ain't-right" thoughts. Again, OSU is already significantly ahead of Bama in the computers. If they beat OU, the result probably won't be good for Bama.
