Ding, Ding, Ding.
It would be a joke if a team with 4 losses got to play for a national championship. Talk about a watered down regular season AND the playoffs wouldn't be as exciting as people think they would be.

When did we vote on this? Cause I didn't get the memo that I was supposed to show up and vote somewhere.

It is a big improvement. And how about we actually let it happen 1 time before we start calling the 4 team playoff a flop?

Why is the "Sweet 16" ok for basketball and not for football?
There are somewhere around 347 Division 1 NCAA basketball teams, yet 120 FBS football teams

I'm for an 11 team round robbin playoff which stretches the season until May.

A 16 team playoff would be awesome but it will never happen. If your school is gonna be considered the best then they should beat the best. I would love for them to ad FL St. and V Tech to the SEC as well, would be fun!

Why 16? Because you want them to make the playoff?
No. Anything over 4 will ruin college football, eventually.

Yeah, you possibly could make a case for eight (like UF, UO on the outside looking in due to a close loss), but anything more than that devalues the regular season too much. Strength of schedule and big wins during the regular season must not be devalued.
If we wanted to be in the eight team playoff, we should have beaten UF.
ETA: you possibly could make it five by making conference champs that don't have to play a championship game play the highest-ranked bcs runner-up from a conference with a championship game. Big 12-2, I'm looking at you.

4 sucks, 16 sucks just as bad though.

I think setting the ceiling at either 8 or 10 is the right call. After whoever is ranked at 10, there is no real standout team that could win the whole thing.
4 is too few, 16 is way too many.

So 12 game slate, 1 CCG, 4 game playoff...possible 17 football games for part time amateurs. Everyone of these kids need to get paid 5 grand a game.
Never happen....Paycut wouldn't be tolerated in Austin.

8 is the correct number.

I actually prefer the 6-team model. That will give incentives for the teams to continue to play hard for the 1 and 2 seeds and a first-round bye. Although, I could see people clamoring that an SEC team always gets a first round bye.

Bc a a hoops game takes about 2 hours and the players don't need 2-3 days to recover from one game like they do in football. Too much pounding for those kids.

I could work with that idea too.
Remember, trying as mightily as we all will, eventually, the SEC won't be in the catbird seat. It may take another decade, it may take 3 years. We won't like it, but it will happen.

Tuberville was asked about it once and said that when he coached in FCS, the playoffs basically became a war of attrition at some point due to injuries and fatigue.

A 16 team playoff would be an absolute joke. I'm happy with 4.
So if you lost in OT by 3 point on the road to the #1 team in the land, you'd be ok with not getting a spot in the playoffs? You'd drop out of the top 4 and be on the outside looking in come selection time.
There are several teams in the top 5 that don't warrant being there that A&M for example would beat, but can't b/c they aren't in the Top 5. I think 8 team playoff would be great. 16 too many, 4 not enough.

They are well compensated in the form of a scholarship at their chosen university.

I heard a lot of guys on ESPN say that 4 wasn't going to be the answer. How did we take anything? The fans didn't have a say!
