Different sports can go through a phase like this. Think about the NBA all last decade. Lebron went to 8 straight finals. The Cavs played Golden State 4 years in a row. The years that Durant played for the warriors the west regular season almost felt pointless.

Also Brady and how awful the AFC East was. With 1/2 seeds getting byes, the Patriots were practically given the AFC title game for a decade.

UConn women's basketball as well.

Yes, you make a good point. I'm not trying to hate at all. But remember, Alabama has been to nine national titles since he came as well. Even though they lost three, still good those years; it's a lack of parity from that perspective.

Yea I mean we are absolutely the monster in the room. Honestly, and I know it is easy for me to say this, I think having a big bad guy is good for sports. It was fun to hate the Yankees in the 90s. It was fun to hate USC in the 2000s. I think it's fun for teams to hate us (for them) and it's exhilarating to beat us and win titles (LSU 2019, UGA 2021).
While I do understand that angle, I would dispute a couple things:

1) USC wasn't the monster in the 2000's... they were ONE of them. LSU was the other, and the key to the SEC getting focused on. I still thing LSU beats USC if they match up in 2003.

2) to build on that, it's fun when you can beat Alabama.
I'd say it was more fun when you could toss LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Florida into a pot, shake it up, pull a name out and that team wins the title. Ok, Georgia didn't win one, they were always on the cusp. Auburn only won one, but went undefeated in 2004.

You honestly didn't know who would win, but SOMEONE would, and they'd roll the non-SEC challengers. Those were high times indeed.
I wish Alabama would have joined the crowd, but not dominated it.

Before you guys pounce, he's the greatest. But the whole lack of parity started when he went to Alabama. Recruiting is the main reason: #1 almost every year.

The last major old school coach left at this level. He is making other programs work harder to try to catch him. This is good for football.

When he’s done football becomes much softer.

OP suggests parity is alive and well in college football.

Case in point, OP cites less than 8% of teams have won national championships in last 13 ish years.

Less than 8% of schools in 13-years is the argument made.

Not sure if any counter point is needed, as OP did such a great job of cancelling their own argument.

Or, rather, the 92% of teams who DID NOT compete for a championship over the period of time that requires no less than 2 or 3 U.S. presidents...ahhh...nevermind.

The NFL leader/ownership has influenced FAR stronger parity forces than "college football" has.

Perhaps, a stronger argument is...college football has a LONG way to go to get parity.

The end.

Since 2008 there have been 8 different schools win national titles. Alabama (6) (2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2021) Clemson (2) (2016, 2018) Florida (1) (2008) LSU (1) (2019) Georgia (1) (2021) Florida State (1) (2013) Ohio State (1) (2014) Auburn (1) (2010)

But a lot of those other schools had to play Bama in the national title as well.

This is the dumbest use of statistics I’ve ever seen in an argument.

Case in point: If, theoretically, 13 different schools had won a National Championship over the 13 years (so one unique school each year), then percentage wise you could say “Only 10.4% of teams have won a Championship over these last 13 years!”, which would still sound really bad, but there are 124 FBS schools so what do you expect…

Yes, he went around the rules and empowered boosters to pay families to get their kids to Alabama.

Look at Tua’s entire family leaving Hawaii to move to Alabama and his parents getting jobs.

Saban will be, actually already is the grandest college football legend.

All professional football fans know about Lombardi.
Saban is the Lombardi of college football, or more to the point, Lombardi is the Nick Saban of pro ball.

I dont see where college football has been ruined.
First, stop with , well Alabama signs the number one class every year. No, they dont. Its actually been a few years now since Alabama was concensus number one.UGA and tOSU have out recruited Bama the last few years.
Second, Alabama has all five stars. No, they dont. Bama has a team of 3 and 4 stars and a handful of 5 stars. Again, UGA and tOSU have more 5 stars on current rosters.
Third, Bama wins the title every year. No, they dont.

The one that gets me is FOR YEARS, 40, 50 YEARS, everybody wanted a playoff, you got one, now everybody thinks it sux.
Oh, Now, the BCS was better or the old conference tie in was better. People need to decide what they want and not blame a program or coach for them not getting it.

Next, opt outs. The opt outs are not because of the playoff. Hell, there weren't ever but one or two bowl games that mattered anyway. People dodge around the fact that players are different now. Like it or not, that's the truth. Its about me, myself and where
is mine. I have watched many heisman winners, 1st round picks and All Americans play their last bowl game in a meaningless one just in my life. It happened 60 years ago too. Thats over, the world has changed.

No, Saban didnt ruin college football. Greed, selfishness, shite like the ungodly stupid NIL, oversaturation and constant, stupid changes that change nothing are trying to tho. Its not ruined now but if folks dont stop fkn with it it will be.

The last 4 seasons have had 4 different national champs (Clemson, LSU, Alabama, Georgia).

I think the OP meant that there's usually 4 or 5 teams in the playoffs every year.

This past year was different. Fans were getting tired of Bama, UGA, OSU, and Clemson in the playoffs every year. It only happened for a few years though.

As for the future... Clemson is no longer a player, but in the foreseeable future the same teams will probably be in the playoffs every year and make for a boring postseason for most fans. Bama, UGA, probably OSU, and some other team will be the four playoff teams. That's boring football.

I've lost most of my interest in college football. Kinda just done with it. I've been a college bball fan for a long time as well. I'm just falling more into that.

For bball fans, I think the tourney this year will be one of the most entertaining. So many teams could pull it out. Gonna be fun.

Imagine leaving beautiful Hawaii to live in freakin Alabama. Money is a powerful thing and Saban is a master at dealing it out. That's why he he is melting so hard when asked about the NIL.

Where was i owned? Boy....i am starting to see what Aggy fans have been saying about Texas now. You will NEVER be a blueblood of this conference like Tennessee is. So once again sit down and stfu.

Tennessee would NEVER change conferences. You wanna be SEC punk.
