Is Rich Rodriguez the most important person in college football history?

When you think about it, he forever affected the trajectory of three different college football powerhouses. His last minute decision to say no to Alabama gave way for Nick Saban to be hired. He also took over for legendary coach Lloyd Carr at Michigan and completely derailed that storied program, which hasn’t been able to truly recover since.

His wife is.

Mal Moore had the contract faxed and was awaiting signature...

That bastard doctor in Miami put a few ripples on the pond, too.

I remember laughing hysterically when he turned down Bama and then immediately shitting my pants when Saban was hired

By this metric. Tebow is the most CFB player in history.

If Tebow signs with Bama over UF, Bama probably won't fire their coach in time to get Saban. Who likely goes somewhere else and makes them a dynasty.

Add in with Tebow not there. UF may not win a title in 06 and 08, or could have. With Tebow gone Meyer and Mullen have a stud rock star freshman in Can Newton.

So Tebow goes to Bama. Newton ends up staying at UF cause Meyer isn't letting go of his starting QB even if he murders someone. Auburn doesn't win a title in 2010.

Would have been a very dynamic shift of the entire last 12 years of CFB.

Interesting but no. IMO the most important people in CFB history are:

1. Walter Camp -- basically invented the game
2. Sammy Baugh -- TCU QB was the first great passer; game was never the same
3. Dutch Meyer -- invented/popularized the spread offense

Shula would have found a way to frick Tebow. Otherwise Saban replaces Meyer at UF

LaVelle Edwards bringing the air raid to big time college football deserves a mention.

Does Meyer leave without Saban at Bama? He would have had Cam in 2010 so the fake heart attack never happens. The broken locker room may still occur but Meyer would have had Cam to keep his job and Saban hired by someone else by then. Like FSU possibly.

I’m guessing WV, but they’re not really a big name in CFB.

legendary coach Lloyd Carr

Lloyd Carr was a great mind and good coach (for the most part), but he was very miles esque. Lost 3 games a year and squandered a lot of talent. Couldn't beat biggest rival.

Lloyd lost 3+ games in 10/13 years at Michigan.

I think it all worked out in the end. Alabama wins and everyone else suffers. Sounds like a happy ending to me.

So Tebow goes to Bama.

So Bama wins the 2009 NC and Tebow the Heisman. Shula- the clapping fool- is still at Bama because he wins the SEC every four years.
