He led a 3-9 team from the previous season to a SEC Championship and BCSNC apperence. In just two years at Auburn he set a lot of AU records here's a few
57 total TDs
Most Passing yards in a game 456
Most total yards in a game 505
Most rushing yards in a game for a QB 214
Marshall also beat these QB H2H
Dak Prescott
Aaron Murray
AJ McCarron
Johnny Manziel

Matt Mauck and Matt Flynn could be in this discussion imo

Isn’t he a DB in Canadian league football now

Yes. He also plays wildcat QB up there.

He is. Just more proof of how valuable he was in the SEC.

That was when Gus Malzahn was in his glory days. He schemes up a perfect offense to fit the skill set and work around limitations of Nick Marshall. Ever since then Gus has been unable to
Adjust once defenses have taken away his run heavy mobile qb scheme. He then went with pocket passers like Stidham and has been at a crossroad ever since

Jeremy Johnson and Sean White were the pocket passers before that. Stidham was always listed as a DT.

He's no Drew Lock but he was good.

He was fun to watch, that's for sure. Extremely athletic.
Didn't he return kicks in the NFL for a bit? Or still does? Crazy to think an ex-QB would be in that position.

He was absolutely perfect for that particular system, and he made the decision to continue as a DB (where UGA recruited him to play)because he knew his skillset wasn't right for an NFL QB. There are quote a few examples of guys like that in the NFL. Antwaan Randle El and Scott Frost are a couple off the top of my head.
He was in the NFL for a couple of years and was suspended for PEDs, I believe and landed in the CFL.

He was quick and fast as hell and a decent passer. He was nearly unstoppable in that system at that time. After the league changed substitution rules and started enforcing 3 yards downfield and defensive coordinators figured out how to defend it, Gus hasn’t been the same since. He’s lost at least 4 games a year and only won more than 9 one time the last six years.

He was a hell of an athlete, but he was an absolute magician with the zone-read. He would ride the mesh for so long and hardly ever made the wrong decision to keep it or give it. Then his speed took over when he would keep. I don't think I've seen another QB run it as well in the SEC since him.

Didn't he get kicked out of another school for stealing from his teammates in the locker room?

That man was fun to watch. Hell of an athlete.

I was at the LSU-Aub game that year which was the only one you all lost. If Gus had not have F’d up the play calling in the first half you probably would have won that game too

That 2013 Auburn offense really was incredible to watch. It seemed so simple to stop but you just couldn’t.
I remember when they came to Knoxville that year. Marshall might have thrown 5 passes that day. IIRC Auburn had over 400 rushing yards between him, Mason and Artis Payne. It was beyond maddening watching them gash the defense over and over.

This. Auburn was at their best when they really committed to the run and only took 13-15 pass attempts per game. Honestly not sure why Gus has gone away from that, but I'm glad.
I agree also about Marshall being one of the more undderated players in the SEC. He wasn't the most accurate QB, but he had touch on deep throws that made their offense tough to defend. Then you throw into account his 4.3 speed and physicality to take body shots.

shite passer, could run the football pretty good.

We haven’t had a decent oline in a few years. That’s been our problem

I remember when he threw for 456 on bama in the 2014 iron bowl. That was neat.
