Different. UGA offense is not a concern. Got it?

They can be had in the secondary though if they play an offense that can exploit that.
This is a legit concern. Kentucky schemed well but just didn’t have the horses. I think you could say UK may have the best OL we will play though.

Any UGA fan that isn’t worried about Bama is lying. I know Saban will have em ready to play. But I just think our front 7 will be a lot for them to handle this year.

Our only shot in that game is if we continue to get more explosive. We've steadily started hitting more big plays, but Bryce is going to have to get comfortable and consistent throwing the ball down field or we won't have any shot.

You aren't beating UGA's defense with 3-4 drives of 10 plays, 75 yards. That just isn't happening.

Georgia hasn’t given up a terrible amount of big plays. 35 plays of 10 or more yards. Good for 3rd nationally. Behind Wisconsin and Arizona but they have played one less game than UGA.

I like our progress on offense. Please, please tackle on D. Not asking too much. And cover on occasion.

It's a great defense, maybe all-time good, but it hasn't played an offense that can explosively throw the ball without it's running game attached to it.

And there may not be an offense out there that can against them.

Nah the older defense were better. In today’s schemes of power running and ball control it’s easier to have better defensive numbers.

They're really good but no, not yet.

Teams with Best Defensive FEI from 2007-Present

1. 2016 Alabama 1.88
2. 2011 Alabama 1.82
3. 2011 LSU 1.77
4. 2021 Georgia 1.69
5. 2009 Alabama 1.64
6. 2012 Alabama 1.63
7. 2017 Alabama 1.61
8. 2014 Ole Miss 1.60
9. 2015 Alabama 1.57
10. 2017 Auburn 1.54

Georgia has been very dominant defensively but their competition hasn't been great. Auburn's the only team they've faced that ranks in the top 45 in scoring offense. And Auburn's scoring offense is inflated by them scoring 122 points against Akron and Alabama State. In their three games against Arkansas, LSU, and Penn State, Auburn has averaged 27.3 PPG which is okay but nothing special.

LSU was a one dimensional offense. It didn't matter who they played. Their STs and defense were elite. Scored a lot of points or set them up with very short fields. It's one of the worst offenses to be in a championship game in last ten years. They were good at running the football, but if you had an elite defense, it wasn't that hard to devise a plan to stop them.

The 2011 Bama defense allowed 5 first downs in the national championship game.

You can say the same about both the 2011 LSU and Bama defenses. The offenses in the conference were terrible that year.

I know LSU played a tougher OOC schedule than Bama that year. I'd have to go back and look. But the only good offense Bama played all year was Petrino's Arkansas. They ranked 14th in yards per play. The next best team was LSU at 50.

I'm sure these metrics to come up with the ranking are trying to take into account such things, but most teams in the SEC at that time were trying to establish the run, win with defense and shorten the game, thus taking possessions away from the offense.

Good point but regardless it’s at least nice to see a defense that stands out which hasn’t existed in so many years. I hate it personally

Good stats. Thanks for sharing.

Auburn's the only team they've faced that ranks in the top 45 in scoring offense.

Keep in mind though scoring averages without UGA as the opponent.

Auburns averaging 39 per game, 10 vs UGA (11th nationally, omitting the UGA game)
Arkansas averaging 37 per game, 0 vs UGA (around 17th nationally, omitting UGA)
UK averaging 34 per game, 13 vs UGA (around 32nd nationally, omitting UGA)

Of course a lot of teams PPG would go way up if you didn’t count their lowest performance but the difference is enough for me to at least to lean to say it’s
more of UGAs defense than their offenses being lackluster.

That team exposed Grantham and UGA's defense. We thought we were in the same tier or perhaps a tier slightly below LSU and Bama. Looking back, our defense thrived because we played really bad offenses all year long in the SEC. The West was bad and the East was even worse. Revealed when we played Boise to open the season. Thought we had it fixed until we faced LSU in Atlanta. Exposed again. Then exposed one more time in the bowl game vs. Michigan State.

It may take an Ole miss and with a healthy corral to expose this team but it may be better to be slightly pessimistic and not get by a surprise. I don’t see any team left on the schedule that exposes this D. Might take until the SECCG

There are definitely better offenses on the back end, at least if you look at the raw numbers. Most of those teams have defensive problems though. I would expect our defensive numbers in ppg and ypg to rise by the time we get to Atlanta.
