Kirby has the unfortunate situation of straddling the massive sea-change in sports. He was trained and molded for the pre-NIL era. The Saban formula is gone and time will tell if he can rebuild to 2021 2022 levels.

110-20 for a ten year stretch puts him in the top tier of all time coaching performances..

As was mentioned earlier, Kirby is a good coach and trained under Saban for the pre NIL bagman booster under the table money system which consisted of a small supply of teams doing it that way which gave them a huge advantage in securing top high school talent which led to wins. Hence, his outstanding record at UGA.
Kirby has hinted that his days are numbered with comments like he has other things he wants to accomplish. We’ve already seen the top teams under NIL and the portal system take steps back in roster talent.
And we’ve seen the results in a real playoff. Day has been the best at making the transition from buying players under the table to buying them in the open market.
Kirby is not a fraud but he has struggled when having to compete for players in a much bigger demand market now that everyone can buy players. UGA’s RB’s and LB’s are nothing close to what they have been because the studs are now spread out over more than 6-8 teams. They made a great buy with the Miami WR which has paid off. We’ll see how he fares in the playoff without a huge talent advantage and actually has to coach.
