Georgia is VERY good... Lights out at recruiting... Bad luck and not playing up to their abilities is their achilles heel... They have all of the tools and resources to be elite... No WAY should LSU absolutely OBLITERATE them the last few outings and they should have won 1-2 against Bama over the last few years... I shudder to think of the titan that would have been created if Saban were the coach...

So there’s one good football team every season and the rest are not.
There’s one national champ every year and in the last 40 years UGA hasn’t been named it. They are consistently very good and if they ever break the streak they’d be a great program.
Odds are that a program that remains in the top 5 or 10 consistently will eventually win a championship. The title of this thread begs debate on whether a program has to win a NC to be "good". It's always been a point of contention to me that a second place team could lose by a FG in overtime and they're not any good, but the team that won is. I can name several instances where one team was the best in the country but didn't win it all. Footballs are oval and pointed at the ends.

Richt really did a great job in the first part of his tenure in establishing a winning culture. However, he just couldn't get over the hump to translate all of those 10+ win seasons into something more meaningful. In turn, Kirby has cracked the code on recruiting and UGA likely has as talented a roster and as fertile recruiting grounds as any team in the country. But, similar to Richt, he has been very close to greatness multiple times but just can't get the ball across the line.
Richt's recruiting fell way off starting in '10.Not sure why.It coulda been Saban or Urban/Boom down at UF or maybe our AD who didn't wanna invest in "analyst" and also took a idiotic stand against "over signing"
Our '13 class was a perfect example. We signed 30+ kids and not ONE was drafted in '16 and the state of Georgia produced more players NFL drafted that year than any other state and obviously not a single one of those signed with UGA.
Recruiting did pick up in '14 and '15 probably because we added Pruitt.

Odds say that but UGA has been doing that for 20 years and has yet to take it home.

I don’t think you are wrong. It’s unfortunate but at the end of the day you play the game to win championships. 2017 UGA was a great team, 2009 Florida was a great team but neither won a championship. That’s what ppl remember.

That SEC east gaulet is a joke. UF is about it yearly and that has been so-so lately. If UF and Tenn become good every other year then brag about all your top 10 finishes but saying that playing cupcakes from the SEC east and Ga tech yearly aint saying much. Not Saying UGA doesnt have talent but top 10 finishes with pretty much 8 gimmies every year is comical.
Is 4 top ten finishes in a row good?

UGA is a very good team. Unfortunately, they are in the state of Georgia and therefore part of the curse. We still haven't figured out what is the cause of such curse, but ask the Falcons, Braves and Hawks and they will admit to being cursed.

Don’t have to take the statement that literally. Since 2000, I would bet good money UGA has finished in the top 10 final rankings as much as just about any program. Which was the original poster’s point.

A helluva lot better than you are a starting threads.

FIFY again.
The conference finished with 3 teams in the top 7 and 4 in the top 13.
It was fine last year.

We are good at football but that's about as much as you can say. A great football program would have won at least one NC in the last 40 years.

One side of me says they lose all their big games. The other part of me thinks they would be in the playoffs every year in another conference.
What conference would they do better in? The ACC? They would lose a random game and get blown out by Clemson. Big 10? They would lose to a random team and get blown out by tOSU. Big 12? Ok they replace Okies as the team blown out in the playoffs years they beat the Okies. I guess they could join the pac 12 and improve their position.
