From my POV it seems like it

You don't see the Rice's, Coastal Carolina's, Stony Brook's and Cal State Fullerton's of the world making championship runs in too many other sports.

God no. It’s regional/niche as hell. Partiy only exists in the SEC. But college baseball is like college hockey. Only a few care.

The SEC and ACC are basically the only conferences that give a shite and invest heavily in it. And the ACC still only has 1 national title since the 50’s

There's a lot of parity among those southern teams, though. Even from mid-major schools. The south seems to dominate outdoor sports that rely on extended periods of warm weather in general.

As much as we dog on the ACC, they do at least send like 10+ teams bowling every single year, and they're mainstays in the Supers/CWS.

Connecticut, San Diego St, Florida Atlantic, Villanova, Gonzaga, & Loyola aren't all school that are in the Power 4 and have made the Final 4 recently.

Honestly it’s truly wild the politics that led to the acc/big east and lack of a national conference on the eastern seaboard(Joe paterno often spoke about this). Literally everything you need to make a successful conference is there, population, interest, history tradition. Infighting, cultural barriers, cronyism and greed stifled it from the start. I’m not making a plea to undo a century of college sports history but we would of had way more conference parity if there had ever been a true east coast conference like the pacific conference(pac 8) had. Instead the east was divided into a northeast conference(big east) mid Atlantic(acc) and southern(sec) that joined with other Deep South institutions.

Shoot man Rice is a well oiled machine in football. You just gotta look past all the losses and you’ll see it.

Plenty of universities without big football funded budgets succeed in mens basketball. Villanova, Gonzaga, Butler, UConn, Xavier, etc. And MBB is far less regional with title contenders and fan interest spread nationally in both urban and rural areas.

You have to go back to 2014 before you get a repeat champion. Before that it was 2010. Only 4 schools have multiple championships since 2000. It may be dominated by a region, but within that region it is very difficult to dominate the sport on a championship level. At least there’s less of it than football and basketball.

Yes
We have seen a 4 seed Fresno State win it all

We have seen the last team in Ole Miss win it all

Most parity for sure

MLB allowing guys to go high schoolers go go straight to the minors or go to college and commit to staying three years has served college baseball pretty well.

Not anymore. The SEC has taken over the sport. It's becoming haves vs have nots.

Rice baseball has been done for 15 years.
