Brody Croyle was a higher rated QB than Tua.
Really? I knew Brody chose between OU and Bama but I meant in more recent years. After all, Forrest Davis rated Freddie Kitchens a 5 star back in the day

Dude, with all due respect, that defense was total shite.
Even after Tua's give away fumble down near the goal line, LSU went 94 yards in like 5 plays. The defense could NOT get a stop when it counted. The same for the AU game.
That defense wasn't up to Alabama's standards, but it was more than good enough to win a national championship with a competent offense in big games.
It was a better defense than what LSU had for damn sure. The Alabama defense finished 3rd in the SP+.
And I don't know what you are talking about when it comes to not being able to get a stop when it mattered. Down by 20 coming out of the half against LSU they managed to get a turnover, then they stopped LSU the entire 3rd quarter. 3 stops in a row. Also many stops during the 1st half as well. They lacked consistency.

Yeah, also it's Brodie I misspelled his name. I didn't do recruiting rankings back then and had no idea he was so highly rated. I knew he had a lot of hype and that was about it.
He got a bad deal really. Comes in right at the start of the dark ages.

You're wrong. No, Saban defense with a freshman signal caller is good enough to win a national championship. And, no, our defense last season was not better than LSU's defense at the end of the season when LSU's defense was healthy. Stop lying.

I think Macs game translates better for what made Bama successful all of these years. The year we switched to the high paced 40pts a game offense our defense has suffered. Don’t get me wrong most of the defensive woes were due to attrition and coaching changes but what Macs absolute to just take what the defense gives him instead of thinking he can make every play will help Bama be a more successful team.

Final SP+ rankings for 2019 college football season
Alabama Defense: #3
LSU Defense: #20
Look, even in the Alabama vs LSU game, the LSU defense wasn't better. The Tua fumble - not touched, not forced. The Punters fumbled snap - not touched. Tua throwing an interception on 1st down, from his own 26 with 20 seconds left in the game - had 0 pressure on him and was just a bad decision and throw.
The only LSU turnover for the game was after an Alabama defender hit Burrow on a blitz.
In a 5 point loss. LSU had the better offense, not the better defense. And it had the better offense because Burrow stayed poised, took what was given to him while Tua tried to make highlight football which lead to shitty decisions and turnovers.
And that's why I'm glad we have Mac now. He says poised, takes what is given to him and doesn't try to be the hero. With the talent around him, the only thing he can do to really screw it up is start turning the ball over to good teams.

I think Tua must have screwed your gf or something because you constantly rail on him and he is the ncaa career record holder for pass efficiency.
The fact is that he was playing injured after the UT game. He shouldn't even have been playing vs LSU but I'm sure he wanted to because he's a competitor. You keep harping on the fumble in that game but a healthy Tua would have been in the endzone before the fumble. An injury impacts a qbs entire game including mental. Tua's problem was bad injury luck.

Was a high four star QB out of high school with an impressive offer list. In fact, other than Tua and now Bryce Young, he was the highest rated QB Bama has signed.
Philip Sims was a 5 star by at least one service and so was Blake Barnett. Brodie Croyle has been noted.
oh yeah and I assume you mean fairly recently. If you want to go back a way Vince Sutton was the highest rated qb in the nation. I think Billy Ray was also the highest rated qb his year and there was another highly rated qb, whose name escapes me, in the same class or year before or after.
Gene Newberry

I dunno about better, but I think he's proven to be a really good college QB with a better skill set than even most Alabama fans thought he had. He also probably has the most balanced elite team around him that we've had since 2016 (between OL, WR, RB, Defense).
We'll know more after the Georgia game, but so far he's been better than I ever thought he'd be.

Football changes - it comes and goes in waves.
Given this run and gun kind of of today's offense - it would not surprise me to see Alabama come back out with a fullback, two TEs, and hold the ball for forty minutes again.
But I do believe in complementary football. The complement to that would be a blitz heavy, high risk and reward risk. Saban would have to change on THAT side of the ball. He's never lost because he takes too few chances of offense. He's too conservative on defense.

You realize you can look it up easily right? He was not even close to a 3*. He was a top 100 prospect.

And here come the injury excuses along with claims of things that never happened.
The funniest injury excuse is the Clemson game. Where he threw a pick six in the first quarter and couldn't drive the offense down the field the entire 2nd half. A week after he was playing fine against a crappy defense.
Use whatever excuse you want. The bottom line is what happened, a ton of bad decisions that resulted in losses against good defenses.

If had learned to throw the ball away more he would be the greatest college qb of all time.

No Bama has a defense again simple as that. Bama had no defense last season
