Is Bama better with a QB like Mac than a QB like Tua?

I'll hang up and listen.
Btw, I coined Tua as Mr. Glass. I don't like it - I don't wish injury on anyone but there it is. He's a good baw though. Respect him very much as a person and a QB. He just should have stayed in Pac12 or Big12.

Tua was possibly the best college qb of all time, only problem, he is made of glass.
His ability to hit deep balls was unmatched. His ability to get hurt doing stupid things was also.

I personally don't think so, if Bama had Tua this year they'd look like 2019 LSU. Defenses this year are practically nonexistent due to attrition and lack of offseason.

it's impossible to know that unless this defense sucks severely too. Well and also assuming you mean to ask with a QB like Tua and his injuries

They won championships with Jake Coker and AJ McCarron. Maybe they do better with guys who aren’t hyped up.

That could be it. Seriously ... not many can handle the hype.
'Cept maybe Joe Burreaux

Burrow wasn't hyped. He wasn't even 2nd team pre season SEC qb

He had no problem winning that Heisman and then shoving it up Clemson's arse after the fact. There is that.

I do think Saban will be more comfortable with Mac. His efficiency is great. Quick strike drives can wear out a defense. Nick will mix it up more on offense using Najee to open up the passing lanes. This will sustain longer, more efficient drives that allow the D to always be fresh.

We won a title and a shitpot of games with Tua. Bama's problem last year was more defense related and we were reliant on Tua and the offense.
Tua could do things that were just incredible so I don't see how you can not let that dog hunt.

Maybe.
Tua-style QBs pull away from what Alabama typically excels at:
1. Great RBs
2. Punishing OL
3. Wearing down the defense
Our OL is probably better this year than last, and the defense is absolutely better. I think Alabama would win with Tua or Mac at QB this year, so long as whoever is OC played to their strengths, but this year's build (with a heavily loaded RB backfield) is better suited to a QB who plays off the play action, is less likely to throw into pressure, is perfectly fine taking what a defense gives him.
He's not going to put up Tua or Burrow numbers, but if he puts up a Coker or McCarron like season he'll still be fondly remembered.

Tua is the much better talent, obviously, but I think we are better off with a guy like Mac for a couple of reasons.
1. Our offensive style reverts to downhill run game and PA passing. This suits the enormous linemen and big running backs we have. Those guys weren't well suited to the RPO run game.
2. We can play ball control football which is beneficial to the defense and wearing down the opponent. For all the improvement in scoring the past couple of years, I'd argue that our defense struggled as a direct result.
3. It's easier to plug and play at QB in this style than it is to find another Tua.

This is my belief as well. Having a QB like Tua, Murray, Mayfield doesn't mean a NC necessarily (could happen tho) as you absolutely need to be able to control the clock. I think Nick Saban is right in that regard. He would prefer a QB like AJ or Mac but no one can turn down a Tua no matter what.

I honestly think Mac is very good. Definitely serviceable enough to win another title which pains me to say because I wish Satan would retire and Bama would cease to exist.

2009: Greg McElroy (Jr)
2011: AJ McCarron (So)
2012: AJ McCarron (Jr)
2015: Jake Coker (Sr)
2017: Jalen Hurts (So) Tua Tagovailoa (Fr)
2020: Mac Jones (Jr) ?
Looking at this list of Saban's championship seasons, 2017 sort of jumps out as an anomaly.
If a national championship is indeed the measuring stick, Saban appears to have been more successful with a pro-style, upperclassman quarterback, although this doesn't account for changes in overall offensive philosophies and the evolution of CFB schemes as a whole.

Now do Running Backs. I know WR has been great the past few seasons, but you'll notice something very similar in championship seasons. Then look at Linebacker.

Can you just tell us? I don't know what you're getting at with RB. Obviously LB play was atrocious last year and I think looks a lot better this year.
