Also, what happens to rivalries like DSOR? Is that left on the schedule? &, it CAN'T be a non-conf. game.

Honestly, I wouldn't call it a rivalry anymore. It's bama's every other year homecoming game now.

The schedule is more complicated than I thought but I have never made a schedule like this

But something like this.

Pod 4 Sample UGA
Year 1: 4 SEC home games
(P5 OPP), @USC, UK, @UF, Vandy, (Anyone), @Bama, Ole Miss, @LSU, KU, @TA&M, GT

Year 2: 5 SEC home games
(P5 OPP), USC, @UK, UF, @Tenn, (Anyone), Auburn, @Arkansas, MSU, @Missouri, OU, @GT

Year 3: 4 SEC home games
(P5 OPP), @USC, UK, @UF, @Vandy, (Anyone), Bama, @Ole Miss, LSU, @KU, TA&M, GT

Year 4: 5 SEC home games
(P5 OPP) USC, @UK, UF, Tenn, (Anyone) @Auburn, Arkansas, @MSU, Missouri, @OU, @GT

DSOR would be very other year instead of every year. Coming from a UGA fan I know this one is hard to swallow.

The difference is you you play every team in a two year period instead of waiting however many years it takes to go through the rotation to play a team...A&M has been in the league for how long and we are just now playing them. I like to play LSU at home more than once every 20 years it feels like.

You did the smart thing that 5H games should be @GT & 4H hosting the GnaTs. I think the other 3 pairs have the alternate schedule as us/GT.

But what about DSOR...where's that?

Out of fairness, why is DSOR every other year when all other rivalries are kept annual?

This is why the set up has to be figured out. Another plan I've seen is keep 1 rival in each pod they play yearly. That then allows UGA/Auburn, Ala./Tn., etc. to not have to be in the same pod. This also goes to my suggestion of partnering pods to determine SECCG teams, but you play everybody in 3 (full rotation in 6).

If not, you've got to figure out how to keep these chains going: Miss. - MSU - Ala. - Tn. - Vandy & Miss. - MSU - Ala. - Aub. - UGA - Fl..

I tried to put as many traditional rivalries in the same pods as possible. The hardest ones to keep are because Alabam has both Auburn and UT as rivals and we have Auburn and UF. There is always the possibility to move say Kentucky into the Bama pod and move Auburn to ours...then the same issue happens with Bama/Auburn

Like I said, if you keep 1 rival in each pod, those teams don't have to be in the same pods.
This then has the following effects:

Year 1
Pod 2
@ Pod 3
Pod 4
@ B rival
B2
@ B3
B4
@ C rival
D rival

Year 2
@ Pod 2
Pod 3
@ Pod 4
B rival
@ C rival
C2
@ C3
C4
@ D rival

Year 3
Pod 2
@ Pod 3
Pod 4
@ B rival
C rival
@ D rival
D2
@ D3
D4

Year 4
@ Pod 2
Pod 3
@ Pod 4
B rival
@ B2
B3
@ B4
C rival
@ D rival

Year 5
Pod 2
@ Pod 3
Pod 4
@ B rival
C rival
@ C2
C3
@ C4
D rival

Year 6
@ Pod 2
Pod 3
@ Pod 4
B rival
@ C rival
D rival
@ D2
D3
@ D4

*update: I had to do this on my computer to get it to work out. I've updated the scheduling some to alternate the 5/4 H format. The trouble I'm coming up with is either: A - By keeping the other pod rivalry teams alternating yearly between H&A, 1 cycle (y1/4, y2/5, or 3/6) is forcing me to have 3H/1A & 1H/3A for the partnered pod; or B - By keeping the partnered pods in a 2H/2A setup, it's forcing me to put the other pod rivalry teams 3 games @ the same location consecutively. If somebody can uncover a solution, please let me know. I didn't try it out, but I believe to do a 2H/2A with the partnered pod & rotate H/A with the other pod rivalry will NOT give us the 5H/4A - 4H/5A yearly rotation.

The rival in each pod could work from a scheduling perspective. The hardest thing about the pods is trying not to make one pod too top heavy or only one good team. This allows even scheduling when you have two traditional powers in each pod and two non traditional powers. You alternate each year in a pod by playing one traditional power and one non traditional power each year. The next year you do the other two. It helps to balance out the strength of schedule for all teams. It may get challenging if your permanent opponent is one of the “big boys” instead of rotating but I’m open to ideas. The goal is the roommate switch but with 9 game schedule and 16 team league while keeping as many permanent yearly rivalries as possible.

Today the east and west aren’t balanced. You can argue the same point in the late 90’s and early to mid 2000’s in favor of the east. The rotating schedule levels the playing field for the whole conference. No one gets to hide from anyone for very long.

As a matter of fact until the playoff goes to 8 games with guaranteed automatic qualifiers the SEC may not want to do this...Every year the schedule is brutal...however we as fans win and the players that come out of this conference will continue to dominate the NFL draft.

According to a map, that would be the correct placement

What if at the same time they do away with cross-division rivals? Are you willing to give up Bama every year?

I am on my phone so hard for me to get it without putting into excel. One question I have on that schedule is how long does it take to do a home and home with each team? Hard for me to figure out without sorting. Thanks!

While geographically that is true, you have other problems preventing this: 1 - the SEC will NOT split same/state schools into different divisions (therefore Tn./Vandy, Ala./Aub., & Miss./MSU are forever partnered); & 2 - you're forcing Alabama & the SEC to either terminate 3SIO or the IB due to Alabama having to choose TN or Aub. as their c-d rival.

Did you black out when UGA won the SEC title over AU and the refs?

Well then swap Auburn and Missouri and either go to 9 games or end cross permas.
