In reality this happened

That’s wild.
It’s not unheard of for athletics departments to go from bad to good; but you don’t often see the opposite (great to poor)—at least not across the board, in all sports.

Football will still be around in 10 years, 20 years, and longer. Rules to protect the players, including more and longer suspensions for the rule breakers, will change to lessen the likelihood of injury, equipment will improve, pee wee leagues will probably not be allowed, but the game isn't going away that soon.
Baseball? Even flag football is more interesting and fun that baseball. When 30% success rate is considered good offensive production, you know it's going to be boring.

And they aren't awful now, they are still a Top 25-30 overall program, but such a far cry from what they were.
They were truly an elite all around athletic program in the late 1990s.

The best scoring offense in the NFL in 2016, the Atlanta Falcons, scored a TD on 36% of their offensive drives. The other 64% of drives they failed.
The worst scoring offense in the NFL in 2016, the Los Angeles Rams, scored a TD on 12% of their offensive drives. The other 88% of drives they failed.
So, it's all in how you look at it.

Co-Ed Flag Football Title IX for the win.

Wrong,
its going down.
1. Millennial Alumni will not spend the money or invest back into their school
2. Current Alumni are going to stop the support at the rate its been. Cost are getting to out of hand.
3. The Thugs are taking over the sport and just like urban cities, Nike, Rebok, and Adidas will be replaced with FUBU wear.
4. Shcutz and Rydell helmets will be replaced by MO-HAIR and ALL AMERICAN WEAVE
5. New Players will request Golf carts with 22" Rims to bring them from locker room to the side line and back during the games.
Its sad, so many things to list. But College football is on its way down.

I actually think the advanced helmets (and other padding) are a huge part of the problem.
Players feel safe using their noggins as battering rams.
There’s a reason you don’t see the same injuries in rugby.
Totally agree. The lighter and more aerodynamic equipment has basically turned these guys into human missiles.
A few years ago, Mike Ditka said to bring back helmets without facemasks and then see how willing the players are to fly in head-first instead of wrapping up. Everyone scoffed at the suggestion, but I think the overall point is compelling.

We had a president who was run out of town. He spent funds on a giant bbq grill and red carpet (not making this up) for his home. Squares of the carpet were eventually auctioned off. Sadly, he wasn't the worst thing to happen. The ADs that followed were piss poor to say the least (although in hindsight Dave Hart comes across as the guy we needed at the time even though he'll never really be beloved)>
All of this occurred with a major changing of the guard. UT had President Joe Johnson, AD Doug Dickey and several others that all kinda retired around the same time. The void they left was enormous and between Haslam influence and all the infighting an absolute clusterfrick was destined to happen. Hell, we even lost Dr. Julian to retirement in this time frame.
In short, we had great leadership but all of them were born in the 1930s. They hit retirement age all at once and the boomers who replaced them were equal parts scoundrel and thief.

Oh, I'm not talking about scoring. I'm talking about even getting a hit. And .300 batting average will generally get you in the hall of fame.
30% passing average or field goal pct and you wouldn't be playing. Jalen Hurts under pressure completed something like 35%.

because LSU taught the rest of the league how to win and make money in baseball.

Georgia won the SEC's first Baseball National Championship... a year before LSU did. Alabama (2x), Auburn (2x), Mississippi State (4x), Ole Miss (4x), and Tennessee (1x) all experienced Omaha before LSU ever did. ... and this doesn't count the 4 expansion schools who all had early success in baseball. Missouri won the National Title in 1954. South Carolina made it to Omaha 5x before LSU ever did.... Arkansas and Texas A&M each went 2x to Omaha before LSU did.

I’ll probably just post on the OT board when this happens.

It's not going anywhere. In fact, the biggest threat to the game is the contingent of soft imbeciles trying to do things like remove the kickoff.
And I am absolutely going to encourage my son to play if I have one. It'll be his choice, but I would be proud of him playing.
