If Kiffin wants to be remembered as one of the great coaches he will have to find a spot and stick with it eventually. This is evident. For the sake of him and the state of Louisiana I hope it is LSU now. There aren’t many places you can go “up” from there.
This narrative that Lane is constantly leaving jobs is a weird fallacy.
Looking at other CFB coaches going into 2026, Sark's average tenure has been 4 years, Elko is at 2, so is DeBoer, Josh Heupel is at 4, Drinkwitz is 3.5, Mario Cristobal is at 5. Lincoln Riley is at 4.5.

The teams I support all had coaches for over a decade as I grew up.
There are, what, 3 or 4 P4 coaches that have been at their current job for 10 years or more currently?

I think Lane will be successful, but what Lane's not going to do is dominate. No one is going to "dominate" anymore. The transfer portal and NIL has now all but guaranteed that. Program "success" is going to have to be redefined for fanbases like Alabama, Ohio St, LSU, etc. But especially the Alabama fanbase who got used to Saban's dominant run of success. That type of success is not going to happen again, not only for Alabama but any other program.

I think Les Miles did well there. Chip is not the norm..very much never fit LSU style at all. LSU is a pro style team at its core...probably would have done better at a place where the spread is the norm...like Florida, OU, etc...just did not make sense at all.

He stays just as long as any other coach.
Lots of coaches have stayed in one job longer than 6 years.
The six years (well, almost six years) at Ole Miss is his longest stint. Since he became a head coach with the Raiders he has averaged 3 years per job. Six jobs in 20 years, fired mid season twice, fired or quit during the playoffs twice.

Probably a lot less than you think, it's not that common at the P4 level these days.

Not uncommon these days, for instance, your head coach has held 8 in that same period.

Kiffin:
Raiders: 1.25 seasons (fired after 4 games in season 2)
Tennessee: 1 season
USC: 3.5 seasons (fired after 5 games in season 4)
Alabama OC: 2.95 seasons (fired before title game in season 3)
Florida Atlantic: 3 seasons
Ole Miss: 5.85 seasons (quit before playoffs in season 6)
The narrative that Lane is constantly leaving jobs is a fact.

If that's the criteria we're using, then 95% of college coaches are "constantly leaving jobs."

Seven of sixteen current SEC head coaches are going into their sixth season or more at their current school.

Doesn't sound right to me.
Also, you were talking about number of jobs in the last 20 years. If we're saying 6 or whatever is "constantly leaving jobs", then that's 95% of college coaches.

So 19/68?
That's less than 30%...
ETA - You have Venables on that list and he's only going into his 5th year. How much of this is even true?

This is just flat out lazy. 3 of the last 4 coaches won national championships.
And where are they now?
Oh, wait. I did just see Les Miles acting in some extremely low budget movie about the Challenger explosion

This is top end for Lane.
Will he be successful? Yes.
Will he win a natty? Maybe. He's good enough to win one, and self-destructive enough not to.
Will it end badly? Yes, but it will take more than 3 years unless something spectacular happens.
