We also gain a Notre Dame starter in the DL.

You know, I almost forgot about him. Nice catch!

If Malkom Parrish was the best they had to offer at one corner in 2017, they are hurting there in 2018.

Malkom Parrish should not have been on the field against Bama. We had two players who could do the job better sitting on the bench

I don't remember specifics on Campbell - was he thought to be mature and ready to step in on Day 1? Is that the plan?

He is possibly good enough, but probably won't. Webb has done a great job at CB, so I THINK he will get the start, but would not be surprised if Campbell took over in game 5 or so. Either way, we have developed som really good depth the last couple of years. I'd like to see us get one more good CB (DJ Daniel?) and on more good solid Safety. (Cine would be my choice)

"at one corner"... meaning there wasn't a better corner on the roster to fill that spot.

I am not too worried about DB this year with reports on Webb being solid and a lot of promise in Campbell, but we do need the DB unit to play a level above what we got generally last year. But I wouldn't say I "feel good about the secondary" just yet. Will need to see how it all shakes out on the field early.

It's difficult to feel "good" about anything defensively until we see how much impact *not* having Roquan out there anymore will do. I am optimistic, but still concerned nonetheless.

Early word out of 7 on 7's is that Campbell and Otis Reese have been really impressive in the secondary so far. Will be interesting to see how they do when the pads come on, but they are both a different type of athlete than we've had the last few years in the secondary.

I scratched my head about tyrique mcgee. The only game we ever really saw him featured prominently in was UT that I can recall and he played terrific. I know he played some star and got some backup reps in other games but I don't understand why he didn't take more of parrish's snaps. I can only assume they thought he was a bit smallish or inexperienced or whatever but man he played great in knoxville.

Right!? Wasn't sure if it was a practice issue or what, but when I saw him, he played well... and then... poof. Gone again.

I’m definitely worried about playing decent/good teams on the road, in a true road environment. We didn’t have to do that all last year, except against Auburn.

Tennessee, Notre Dame, the Rose Bowl weren’t road conditions?

Count me as unfazed by playing on the road

I think the point DOT (and others) are making is that we haven't seen a ton of "TRUE" road environments. In other words, from their perspective (I'm puttings words in their mouth but I asusme this is waht they mean):

ND- we had damn near 40% of the stadium with our fans
Knox- they weren't good and it wasn't a hostile crowd
Jax- We had half the stadium and their fans were out of it by the 2nd quarter
Rose- Neutral site

That's all I can think of to that end. Although I'm on your side, I would definitely call those road conditions.

Road environment to me ha more to do with the feelings of pregame and first quarter than anything else. Every game I mentioned is going to have guys hyped up and feeling butterflies coming out so the question is how do they settle down? Tennessee was packed out for ours and only died out when Fromm and the defense took control early. Rose Bowl is damn sure a road environment with the adversity we faced and a large Oklahoma contingent opposite our own fans. You don’t need to feel like you’re sitting in a jet turbine for it to be a “true” road environment. You need to feel the pressure of setting the tone early when you don’t have a home crowd behind you and Fromm has looked like the most poised QB we have had under center since Greene (including Murray).

I think UGA V USC will be for the East and I have a suspicion USC takes it. It'll be like Muschamp's 2012 season at UF when things looked bright for UF. We'll see if he can actually build USC, recruit properly etc.

2012 Florida was monumentally more talented than this Carolina team, particularly in defense.

Everyone keeps glossing over what Carolina lost on defense, especially in the secondary. Not too sure why that is but I do feel confident in saying our replacements are better than their replacements

The prevailing thought seems to be that Muschamp just knows how to coach up a defense so the losses won't matter. While it's true that Muschamp is a very good defensive coach, Kirby has proven to be pretty damn good in the department as well and is working with far superior talent. Our offense is better across the board as well except at the receiver position, although that can be debated (they have more production while we have more talent, at least based on recruiting rankings).

Thank you for saying it more eloquently than I would have.

I mean, it might not be a big deal. I just want to see us do it against SC before I'm confident in it. There's a big difference to me between playing in a game where you have 40+% of the crowd against a good team vs. 10% of it.

I thought they were slightly overrated last year and were exposed by Auburn.

Let's see, we were overrated and beat number 11, number 10 and number 3 and lost to number 1 in OT by 3.

Damn, can you tell us who, among the elite, wasn't overrated last year? Gotta be a short list.

They don't return much experience from that 2017 defense, and lost their RB studs.

We return a lot of experience on defense, and our backfield is absolutely loaded with an even better OL. You're an ignorant twat.
