I thought they were slightly overrated last year and were exposed by Auburn. The mulligan in Atlanta set up perfectly for them; Auburn had been worn down with the emotional win over Bama the previous week. And we all know that historically the loser of the first game always has an advantage in SEC rematches. They scored at will on Oklahoma as teams usually do vs. the Big 12. They did do better vs. Bama than I expected.

They don't return much experience from that 2017 defense, and lost their RB studs. The media ranking them preseason top-5 nationally gloss over that fact by talking up the talent level of the guys replacing the starters. But most teams in that situation don't get that benefit of the doubt. There are plenty of SEC programs who recruit well but take a step back when they lose a lot of starters from one year to the next.

BTW this is nothing personal Georgia fans, you're actually my favorite East team and you guys treated me well when I visited Athens for the 2013 game. I just think you'll take a step back this year.

Like in 2016, when they lost to Vanderbilt, Ole Miss & Georgia Tech..?

Georgia will be fine if Kirby can adapt, and might not even lose a beat despite missing so much experience. I think Kirby kind of got rolled in his first year and so he might understand that he needs to retool a few things.

I could see it going either way, though, and all is predicated on Kirby being able to adjust.

Their best RB could have been their third string...

Dude, they won the SEC and made the title game last year, where they were beating Alabama handily until the end, and then added arguably the greatest recruiting class in history afterwards.

And you're not sold?

Their schedule tho. It might be the weakest in a P5.

I think those are fair concerns...we have to convince others that we can perform year to year. The interesting thing with this year is our offense will have to carry our defense until the younger players get more experience. There is a ton of talent on the D and it will only get better as the year goes by.

We do lose the RBs, but return 4 of 5 starters on the Oline, the QB, 3 of the top 4 WRs and both TEs. The cupboard is not exactly bare for RBs, but I expect this offense will be more versatile than last year.

The offense will be filthy.

Roquan is a huge loss on D, but you've got unreal talent behind him.

UGA is going to be damn fricking good this year.

Not sure what would lead you to believe that based on our on field results but ok.

were exposed by Auburn

was bama overrated? We ran into the same buzzsaw they did in JH. Before the rematch we changed our OL to get more physical on the interior, we completely revamped the offensive game plan to go outside more and get players to the edge and in space, we revamped the defensive game plan to bring more pressure right up the middle instead of rushing primiarly from outside, and they no longer had a home field advantage. They completely got our goat in the first game, but we equally dominated in the second. Tip your hat to both sides for each game.

oh please, when the ball was kicked off in atlanta the bama game was entirely irrelevant.

I suggest you go back and look at SEC championship games that have been rematches. I don't think you'll find the results you expect.

Our defense will absolutely take a step back, but not a ton. We lose a handful of guys that had played a lot but weren't as talented as the guys replacing them. Roquan is the biggest irreplaceable loss but the others we can figure out.

lost their RB studs

We have a stable that are fully capable. Count me as not worried about RBs at UGA. QB should improve, OL should improve, WR should improve. Our offense is gonna be fine.

where should we be ranked? Like 15th? We are more talented that anyone on our schedule and will almost surely be favored in every game we play with AU being the possible exception. It's not unfathomable that we could legit be a top 5 team.

so do we. Is that really your main point?

LSU fans seem confused on Chubb. They say he was overrated and an average back, but somehow UGA won't be able to cope with his loss... Runningback seems to be the position that has the most young contributors and with how well Pittman has recruited the o-line I doubt there is much of a fall off. Sure UGA may be young, but when the toughest games are USCe and Auburn then the schedule sets up nicely. With how soft this schedule is I fully expect UGA to win the East again. Playoffs? Probably not.

What Georgia did last year was special. Congratulations. To take it to the next level they need to do so consistently. Time will tell but I agree that I wouldn't be surprised if they took a step back. Alabama is the only team I can think of in the last 10 years of CFB that has proven over and over that they shouldn't be doubted. Other than Bama, you gotta prove it...

Naa...you should be sold because this team could be better than last years with all the talent on that field.

Our only "weak spot" if you want to find one is at LB, which is bringing back a senior in Natrez Patrick.

Even in that position its filled with 5 stars and solid back ups from last year, like Monty Rice. I know you LSU fans know who he is...

We could have a step back and still finish top 5. We return a ton of talent and more experience than many are willing to acknowledge.

First time we have returned a qb since Aaron Murray.
Return 3 of top 4 wr.
Return 5 of top 6 OL.
Return our 2 best DL.
Return our 2 best Db.
Return our best pass rusher LB.

Just about every UGA fan thinks we will as well. We can take a step back and still be a top 5-8ish team though. Our offense should be just as good and the defense should take a step back. We will still have a great team though.

IMO 2019 and onward is when we are really going to take it to the next level and be nationally elite for a while.

Last year UGA was ranked 15th preseason while LSU was ranked 13th. At the end of the year which team turned out to be overrated? I'll give you a hint, they lost to Troy at home.
