If you're going to visit Tuscaloosa and the Bryant Museum, etc., you'll most likely be driving through Birmingham. The Civil Rights National Monument and the Civil Rights Institute and Museum are in town. The Negro League museum is also in Birmingham. If you're in town on June 20th, the SF Giants are playing the STL Cardinals at the oldest professional ballpark in the US (Rickwood Field). Willie Mays will be coming home for the game, and they're honoring the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro League.

Come on down to Chucktown. Most folks know about Fort Sumter. Most folks DON’T know about Fort Moultrie. Really nice place to visit, and no boat ride necessary!

If you don’t have a full day for Vicksburg park you can go to Battlefield park in Jackson and stick around after dark for nightly reenactments. Prolly best to be strapped down in Jacktown if you do.

Jackson is a great place to run.

Find time to travel to Columbus, Georgia.
They have the Confederate Naval Museum. You can zip line across the Chattahoochee River from Georgia to Alabama. Speaking of the Chattahoochee, it has the longest urban whitewater rapids in North America with rafts leaving every 15 minutes or so during the summer. Fort Moore (old Fort Benning) is adjacent to Columbus, and you really should make a trip to see the National Infantry Museum.
The Braves Double A farm team is moving to Columbus next spring and will play at historic Golden Park which saw the likes of Hank Aaron, Bob Gibson, Harmon Killebrew and other baseball all-stars grace its field.
Columbus is a great place for foodies of all types.

Shiloh & Vicksburg are definitely great Civil War Battlegrounds that have been preserved very well and worth a stop. MGM, BHM and JAN all have Civil Rights Museums.
If you come through Meridian be sure to eat at Weidmann’s (oldest restaurant in Mississippi (opened in 1870)) and if you overnight then enjoy a steak at The Rustler, the best steakhouse in Mississippi.
Meridian is also the home of Jimmie Rodgers (The Father of Country Music) though you just missed the 71st annual Festival last month. The longest running music fest in the United States.
Mississippi State has the President US Grant Library on campus in Starkvegas. Swing by the Carnegie Hall of College Baseball (Dudy Noble Field) while you are there.
So there a few suggestions for you.
Enjoy.

Simply agreed. Also, it’s BUCKL - not a classy person on this venue. He/she/etc. can go frick themselves back into the Cuyahoga.

If you visit Tennessee & wish to visit places where the Civil War was fought, go to Franklin, TN. I believe it was said to be the second deadliest war fought there. There's the Carnton plantation & house, (It was used as a hospital for soldiers), the Lotz house (you can still see where the cannon ball was shot through the house). Carter House too. All 3 close together. After that, check out Leipers Fork & downtown Franklin, it's really nice. Enjoy your trip.

If you're interested in the Civil Rights movement, go to the Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta. It's near the aquarium, World of Coke, and the College Football Hall of Fame.
The National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis is pretty awesome. It's at the Lorraine Motel where MLK was shot.
For the Civil War go to Gettysburg.

I wouldn’t come down this far without visiting the College Football HOF. It’s great and if I remember correctly has a uniform that was worn by Archie Griffin. (Thought that would be interest for you)
Obviously, if you are a country music fan Nashville would be a good stop.
Ebeneezer Baptist Church in Atlanta has some Civil Rights History with Martin Luther King, Jr.

All wars definitely brings out the worst in people. It’s not unique to any time period or country of the world. When man is turned loose he is evil and depraved.

You better watch out. We can smell that Ohio stank from a mile out.

Or any part of Memphis TBH. I just moved from there a couple of years ago and it was the best decision for my family.
Having said that, the food may be worth dying over.
