This is insane. I say this as a fan in a program with lots of new-money business people who are donors.

The local endorsements and sponsorships I am seeing are just legalized booster payments to players.

This shite is stupid. College sports are ruined.

I think it will actually keep “would-be-better-off-with-another-year” prospects in school, for all the major sports, with an actual company footing the bill instead of donors & school foundations.

Basketball isn't the popular sport in college. Football is. Why do you think the Big East folded? They were a basketball school and football were secondary sport and some schools didn't have football.

I think people are over reacting to some of this…players were already getting paid at big time programs. Everything is just going to be above the table now.

If it was just about the deepest pockets then the Aggys would’ve been to an SEC title game

Yeah, I don’t give a shite about minor league football. If I wanted to watch the best football players money can buy, I’d watch the NFL. I don’t understand how so many people thought this was going to be a great thing. Yeah, I know the bagmen thing was a problem, but it was nothing compared to where this sport is headed.

I’m going to keep watching this season but probably not for longer than that. There’s a few storylines and players I want to see play out.

All they were asking for was a stipend to help pay bills. But idiots all over lost their shite every time it was brought up.

Should have given them their stipend.

Yeah I'm interested to see what Cal can do now that his players can get paid to play for him.

Don’t understand your thinking or rationalization of this at all. There are a ton of big companies and corporations that did not participate in playing players under the table. Now they are all in if they want to be. Nike, Addidas, Athlon, Under Armor, game companies, equipment companies, Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Toyota, etc….

I seriously doubt most of the people like you claiming it isn’t a big deal or “it was going on under the table” have literally no idea how much money is starting to pour into college football and college basketball. This is just the tip of the iceberg.

Now Sony, Apple, Amazon, Nike, etc…has a big say in college football simply by deciding they want X team to be loaded. They can afford to pay every player on a team $75K a year if they so choose. We haven’t even touched on the very real issues of a kid out of high school with no life or money skills suddenly getting $3K, $5K, $10K, a month. Recipe for disaster.

So in your eyes the thing that made college sports, college sports is the fact that the players did not receive any money. So now that players are receiving money college sports are ruined?

$6,375,000, So some company is going to spend 6.3 million bucks a year of their advertising budget on 85 college football players? Come on man

They've been getting one since 2015.

The absolute best thing in the world that could come of this is to destroy the current model completely.

Get rid of the athletic scholarship (which also pretty much ends a lot of Title IX). You want to play sports, you have to apply and get accepted like anyone else. You have to earn an academic scholarship or pay your own way.

The NCAA's role becomes ensuring academic progress is being made and admissions are being treated equally - cut a corner to get a kid in school or commit academic fraud and that sport gets SMU'd.

College sports would once again be student athletes.

Companies will see the vast majority of college football players aren’t worth massive bucks. They simply don’t have the reach.

Most players will get 4 or 5 figure deals, a very select few (less than 200) 6 figure deals and even less, I’m predicting less than 20, 7 figure deals.

That won’t ruin college football. Now if some bug money donor starts writing million dollar checks to every kid, every year, results/payoffs be damned, then we have another problem. To my knowledge, that hasn’t happened yet
