We have had a non southern school from day 1 of the conference being formed. Kentucky is just as Yankee as Missouri or any other future hypothetical members. So it would not be that unusual.
Just idiotic. Louisville and northern KY near Cincinnati are northern. The rest of the state and especially Lexington is southern. That's why so much of the state rejects Louisville and UL. They just don't get it.

Wow I always thought of Louisville as a southern city.

LOL@KY being Yankee. You do know most people overseas considered EVERYBODY born in the U.S. a YANKEE no matter if you're born in the North, South, East coast, West Coast, midwest. They consider every American a YANKEE.
I've said it before and I'll say it again for the benefit of Mizzou fans who feel picked on by a certain segment of the SEC fan base: as Border States in the War of Northern Aggression, Kentucky and Missouri, though "siding with the South" in modern conference wars, will never be accepted by these small-brained, knuckle-dragging, 4% Neanderthals who have a twisted idea of what "southern" is in the modern world.
They can actually rival haughty northerners in their insistence for a purity test of regionalization. You'll just have to accept that you and we are going to get it from both sides.
Fortunately, the Southern Guard is a small minority who only flare up once in a while. When you encounter them in person, you'll understand that they're most often sidewalk fans of SEC schools and don't really understand the many connections that conference affiliation brings besides football.
For UK fans, they're tolerable, especially considering the overwhelming negative regard northerners have for anyone living south of the Ohio River.

I'm still kind of lost in the whole "Texas isn't a southern state" thing. But oh well. Let's forget about the Confederacy, our dialect, our culture, etc. TAMU even has a statue of a Confederate hero in the middle of our campus who is considered the "father" of A&M.
But carry on. We Texans are just a bunch of yankees I guess.

That would be ideal, for all involved.

Uh, NC is southern. Duke may be Jersey south but it's in NC.

The research triangle has attracted a lot of out of staters over the past twenty years. There's a reason North Carolina voted for Obama.
Virginia has seen the same sort of shift, Northern Virginia is nothing like the rest of the state.

Have you ever been to Chapel Hill? If it's southern, Mizzou is Mexico.

Does saying "Howdy" make one "western"?
