Sidewalk fans are the reason SEC/Clemson’s huge stadiums are filled with 90k fans.
If you don’t have these non alums as season ticket holders you’re looking at a Ga Tech situation in ATL. As noted above, Tech has virtually no sidewalk appeal (I realize there are limited exceptions). It’s not a put down, it’s merely an observation.
UNC has the same issue in NC with respect to football support.

With so many out of state students who may or may not stay connected, I would think the sidewalk fans would drive most tickets sales and merchandise sales.
Alabama has 10% of students from California. Many schools are admitting more and more from out of state to make bank.
I doubt they will be as fervent as a regular person in Cullman, Oneonta, or Selma.
I wish Auburn had more sidewalk fans because that would mean we’ve been more successful. The sidewalk usually runs to the recent big winners. FSU and Miami had huge sidewalk bases in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Now it’s Bama and I would think we will see more Clemson gear now.

UGA, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and LSU rely on more on "sidewalk" fans, while Auburn, Mississippi State, and A&M, while still having them, rely much less on them. Vanderbilt, I imagine, have very very few and would probably be mostly unaffected if only students and alumni were allowed at games.
TAMU has probably the most sidewalk fans of any SEC school. over 90% of every single SEC school's fanbase is sidewalk alums including Vandy

You’d have near empty stadiums and broke arse athletic departments.

SB Nation 2015 data, so UGA has likely increased its lead in sidewalk fans since it was originally done.
Rankings of Facebook users whose favorite P5 team matched the Univeristy attended on their profile:
1. aTm (#1 overall; fewest in P5): 57%
2. Msu (#4 overall): 35%
3. Auburn: 20%
4. Ole Miss 19%
5. USCe: 15%
6. UT: 11%
7. Mizzou: 11%
8. Vandy: 10% (who would have guessed so many Vandy sidewalks; UT has lost the base)
9. LSU 9% (13th most Facebook sidewalk fans in P5)
10. Arky 9%
11. UK 9%
12. Bama 8% (8th most Facebook sidewalk fans in P5)
13. Uf 8% (7th most Facebook sidewalk fans in P5)
14. UGA 7% (4th most Facebook sidewalk fans in P5)
Not perfect, but I'd guess it is as accurate a snapshot as any to estimate the sidewalk effect for each school.

Its worthless data. You can easily google what percentage of a state is a fan of what school and there are results for several states (Texas, Alabama, Florida are some). Then google living alumni for each school. That is far more accurate.

You can't be serious.

But, I am certain it is an odd subject to cause such a triggered response. Have a decaf and relax; its 0930 on a Monday... long week ahead at that rate.

Sidewalk fans help the football team
Alums help the university
Alums help the university

Im sorry but people who do not understand statistics trigger me. The google I am referring to leads to legitimate polling data done by professional polling firms such as this LINK . What you are referencing is no different than taking an internet poll and using that as legit data.

He made an error...just can't tell if it's spelling or grammar. Only the poster truly knows.

That link uses TV sets watching games to determine a "fan" I wouldnt call that legitimate for determination in any sense

Florida sold out every game for like 30 years. Then we had a few bad years and suddenly stadium isn't full.
Sooo..seems like the answer is about 10k people on average or so.

Most of aTm's crowd is current students, former students, and family of those.

There is literally no way to tell this unless someone actually polls people attending games. We do know that TAMU has the smallest alum-fanbase percentages mainly because of the size of Texas.

Bama's stadium would be empty for every game.
