So, Clempson does not have Sidewalk fans? You must be stupid. I lived in Anderson for many years.....I knew many. Just like LSU, just like Auburn, just like Alabama. Btw....I’ve never been to Boston, but I consider myself a fan of the Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, and Red Sox.

My father did not go to LSU, but he donated a lot of money to the school for academic and athletics......a lot more than it would have cost to go there. He paid for his kids to attend school there and will probably set up a trust for grandkids to go. He is a sidewalk fan, but more connected than most grads.

I’m sick of hearing about sidewalk fans somehow being less important. I know a Bammer grad that earned his degree and masters while on scholarship. Paid nothing to the school. Does not donate, only scalps cheap tickets, and calls himself a fan. That’s crappy. I would rather have a sidewalk fan that donates enough money to buy some cheap upper deck seat..... at least he is passionate.

Auburn doesn’t sell out every game now......throw out side walk fans and you have a 1/2 empty stadium. Btw....just like you would at Clempson and Bammer

So all the resident Mississippi sidewalk Alabama fans pay taxes to Alabama? That’s truly the only sidewalk fans that bother me. The ones that live in Mississippi but pull for Bama or LSU. They can GTFO honestly.

Forget the stadium. Think TV contracts and merchandise, where the real money is. You'd end up with club football, because no one would be able to sustain programs at the level they are at now without the sidewalk fans. Not even close.

For a school to have a sizable sidewalk fan base means that that schools is very successful at something. People want to associate with a winner. I have always taken it as a badge of honor that people around the country want to be Alabama fans. My nephew (Alabama class of 2012) just moved to Colorado and found a huge Alabama fan club not associate with the Alabama alumni group.

Roll Tide y'all indeed

A&M would have any issues, nobody claims that school unless you went there.

Well McDonalds or not they’re still a more legit fan than you are. You should go to South Alabama games instead.

This was meant as a % of most teams fan bases living in the state of the team they root for.

Look at Georgia Tech for your answer. They have almost no sidewalk fans and cant fill a 55k stadium. UGA dominates that aspect in state. In fact, if you see someone in Tech gear I can promise you they graduated from there.

I’m a sidewalk Tech fan..so is my dad. I know about 3 others as well. When I go visit my folks in Fayetteville I see a ton of Tech stuff there & Peachtree City, but I’m willing to bet that 99% of those are Tech grads.

In the past, I think sidewalk fans made up most of every fanbase.

Depends on the school. Schools that share the name of the state they play in would be more affected.

UGA, Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, and LSU rely on more on "sidewalk" fans, while Auburn, Mississippi State, and A&M, while still having them, rely much less on them. Vanderbilt, I imagine, have very very few and would probably be mostly unaffected if only students and alumni were allowed at games.

I'm a sidewalk fan and I don't go to games.

I also don't donate money.

People who think these things are required to be a fan are ignorant and probably pissed off because they got ripped off.

Sidewalk fans are the lifeblood of college football and the salt of the earth.

Many fans are born into it. It's pretty much true in my family, even though my nephew somehow ended up an Auburn fan.

My little brother went to Alabama but he was an Alabama fan long before then.
