If Saban had retired after either of the last two NCs...

Could Alabama have persuaded Kirby Smart? Maybe do they give a younger Cignetti a shot? I don't know, but things would likely be better than they are now.
It's Sunday night and Grubb is still employed AFAIK, even if that wouldn't fix the root of the problem. So I'm done until they're all gone most likely. Later baws.

If Saban retired after the last NC and deboer got the job. He would be fired by now for sure.

He was set before Saban retired. He had nothing to gain by swapping schools and starting over. Especially one that would have expected Saban like results with the NIL in place.

Can we assume you meant 2015 and 2017, as 2020 doesn't count? Bama is going to wander in the trailer park desert forever now. Find a new hobby.

Kirby had already played for a title at that point and was at his Alma mater with a solid team. Nobody had really heard of Cignetti. You’d have been laughed off this board for even suggesting his name at the time. Kiffin was even more nuclear than today in Ttown. Sark probably would’ve been the guy. I wonder if Arch would’ve come to Bama. UTx might be willing to let the Tide have both for a rack of Dreamland ribs.

He hadn't won anything of significance when Saban won his last NC. If Saban decided to go out on top, I just wonder if Kirby maybe doesn't start thinking the grass is greener elsewhere.
Anyway, it doesn't matter now.

By the logic of some Bama fans here, OM would have been better off keeping Ed Orgeron.

Why would he have done that ,he’s making his own legacy.Look at Dboer he can’t win if he wins ,following Saban.Just like it was following Bear it took 20 something years of a revolving door of coaches. He would have never lived up to that.

118-75 basketball L6u will never catch up.
185-174-3 baseball. L1u might catch up.

Now if Auburn had offered Kirby the job instead of Gus when he wanted it in 2009 he would still be there.
He woulda been Dye 2.0 and never left

I'll do you one better, and this is really gonna piss people off.
UAB had, for over a decade, literally the worst coach in Division I football history. Why? Because we couldn't get anyone better, they said.
This is what Alabama has been reduced to, after having had two of the greatest coaches ever in living memory. Sounding like UAB fans under Watson Brown.
Thanks, Kalen DeBoer.

Some fans also live in the false reality that things are the same as they were 5 years ago. Just based on years since the playoffs expanded who are the five best coaches? Cig, Kirby(hasn’t won a playoff game since expansion) Ryan “big game day”(chronic under achiever) I mean who else. Lane kiffin? Jim harbaugh(nfl now also cheated his arse off). Im not trying to hate on those guys they’re probably the best right now but they aren’t going anywhere and none outside cig seem dominant. I’m not a pro deboer guy but I am a pro have a guy in place before you make any moves guy. I hate to say it but unless your coach is absolutely tanking or has a small buyout/contract that’s about to be up. Staying pat another year and getting a larger sample size of what will work in this new era might be the best move. Look at how bad Tenn fulmer scenario went. And that was when athletic departments were overflowing with money. With this new mercenary era of 30 million dollar rosters and coach buyouts, I think the revolving door coaching era is over unless some things change.

No. Not a chance.
Kirby played at UGA. Kirby's wife played at UGA. UGA was giving him everything he needed. UGA could match anything Bama offered.
Plus, he wouldn't be in anyone's shadow at UGA.

Scary thought. Kirby at Auburn.

That stat actually surprises me with LSU having eight national championships to Bama’s 0

Wasn't Dabo Sweeney the hot name at the time?
That's who they would have probably tried to hire.
Before the last couple of years and the wheel fallen for him
