Bama has an instate SEC rival. So if they can do it with two SEC teams in state, why can't Ole Miss?

Like I said, Ole Miss hasn't been able to get the right coach/right time.

Orgeron was what Darrel K. Royal was to MSU. Not a great coach/fit at State/Ole Miss, but went to Texas/LSU and won natties.

One top 100 and two top 200 players.
Good luck turning yourself into "Bama" with those numbers.

Right. The best players would still leave the state, regardless if there was only one SEC school.

If Orgeron had been able to just find the right offensive staff at OM it would've worked. That roster he left for Nutt was stacked. He just didn't get any signature wins to validate the rebuilding process, came damn close several times (2006 vs LSU, Auburn and UGA, 2007 vs Bama and Florida)

Legend has it that Orgeron would have named Hugh Freeze his OC if he had been given a 4th year with Jevan Snead, Dexter McCluster, Mike Wallace, Michael Oher, etc.

But the rest is history.

Yeah people who say he's the worst coach in y'all's history are clueless. He inherited almost no SEC caliber talent from Cutcliffe other than Patrick Willis (well, Michael Spurlock but he was out of position at QB). He made some mistakes with game management and hiring offensive staff but it was his first HC job ffs. Nutt did alright with O's players, but I think that roster should've done better than 18-8

They would still have to recruit mostly out of state. Just like most football schools.

It would be easier to recruit out of state though when you know you’re gonna get a solid base of players with minimal effort from inside your own state AND you can offer what LSU and Bama offer to out of state recruits.

They’d be slightly better than Arkansas.

Arkansas high schools aren't fully developed especially Little Rock metro. Now they do produce a good amount of basketball prospects for a state of it's size.

So you're saying the single Mississippi team would worse than State is now.

Mississippi puts out 30ish P5 football players a year and 5ish 4-5 star kids. So the hypothetical team would probably be recruiting right around top 10-15 every year...which would put them (checks notes) FIFTH in the SEC West behind Bama, Auburn, A&M and LSU most years. My gosh that has to be a discouraging realization for you Mississippi teams.

The one major advantage the MS schools should have is the Juco system there, but for some reason it's never really panned out that way

That’s a good point. The state of kansas is also filled with good juco talent that sadly mostly has $2 dollar players with 2 cents of judgment/attitude.

Mississippi does not have a local Rivals affiliate for the most part, the best players are all in small town high schools that ESPN won't go out too. The state produces a lot more talent than just looking at stars.

People in the state will routinely tell you the best player in the state is not the one rated a 4-star, then all y'all get shocked it's true and ask where the guy came from and act like it is just diamond's in the rough.
